As mentioned before – I am not fond of New Age Harner Neo-Shamanism.
Not a fan of Amerind cultural appropriation, but “Nordic Animism” for Nordics or Scandinavians?

- Presentation:

Storks are not my cultural symbolism - but this is lovely imo:
& how about getting involved in some environmental work bringing some wetlands back …

"Nordic Animism" continued ….

No need to borrow from others when one has got one’s own symbolism.
Nordic Raven symbolism:

White Raven:

I do think that through animism we can connect, yet stay within our own specific mythological meaning/landscape/mind-maps.

Forest Saami:
In particular, the raven was believed to have a special lucky feather, leavvedolgi, which was associated with the bird’s instinct and ability to find its prey. Naturally, the hunter who got hold of the feather got the raven’s prey instinct and became successful in his chores.

According to the belief, each animal had its own haltija, which protected the animal and thus also affected the success in hunting. This was also influenced by the lord of animals/hunting place, who had to be kept sympathetic with sacrifices and rituals. Sometimes the haltija of the animals could also take a family or a clan under their protection, which then became tied to a certain species of animal.

Ravens for Karelians were/are Eagle/Thunderbird helpers and as such functioned as
- shaman’s animal spirit helpers
- psychopomp (soul retrievers)

Stories from Saami living in Americas if anyone is interested – a long radio interview but:

Our language group is Uralic, not Altaic, although Uralo-Altaic root language was once proposed.

Marja needs to take a DNA-test to validate if she actually has got Saami relatives and from where, because all Karelians/Finns carry some shared DNA with the Saami from way, way back.

Sámi Identity - What Does it Mean to be Sámi?

I do not know why he keeps on saying Saami language is a Finno-Ugric branch of the Altaic language family.
Saami language is a Finno-Ugric branch of the Uralic language family:

And I do not know why he is so negative about DNA-testing.
BUT. If he took a DNA-test and learned about his deep Siberian ancestry, he would find out as I did that ¾ of my Siberian genes are Altaic and this I trust applies to Saami.
Genes and language are not always a match.
So, he is sort of right and this Altaic-Turkic connection is also something one intuitively, or in one’s ‘bone-marrow’ knows. “It comes through” if one goes within deep enough and reflects what is there.

Is the deep Siberian ancestry an inconvenient truth?
