What to do when you've taken all measures to distance yourself from someone but they keep coming back and vice versa meaning they've taken as well all measures to distance from you but somehow there seems to be an invisible thread that keeps connecting the two of you together? You think to yourself what can there still be left that you need to learn from one another?

What to do? Keep working on Self... Is all you can do.
What can be left? Obviously something...and you’ll probably find out when it smacks you in the face somehow.
In the meantime, accept it's still there and that your growing stronger in all the ways you won't realize until the magic trick is done!

That thread doesn’t let go easy... if there’s still work to be done.
When work is complete... that thread “let’s go” on its own accord so much easier. And you’ll barely notice.

Stop the effort in distancing, as it clearly is wasted energy. Invest that energy in finding out what still binds you together. What do you still need to learn in order to let go?
You can see if you can get clear where the cords are attached, both your and their end. That itself can tell you something about the nature of the issue.

It is probably the residual of the feelings that you had for each other which will remain but it is no reason for you to go your separate ways.
