Football explained

I hope you don’t mind me explaining a bit about this game.

I used to think it was just a load of lads running around after a ball as well but i learnt that it is a lot more than that. In fact I was totally gobsmacked at what is actually involved.

There is in fact more skill, tactics and analysis in football than most other sports, such as player movements, formation efficiency, ball position, transitions between defence and offence and set pieces of players. That’s just to name a few.

Clubs actually pay millions of dollars to employ the best tacticians available. If you don’t have the best tacticians then you don’t win the games.

I hope that gives people some idea of the skills involved in this sport.

Football is the worlds most popular sport and has 3.5 billion fans. Maybe that’s why this thread is so popular on the forum.

HONZA.

The Lounge thread states…….”talk about anything here, spiritual related or not”

So I feel having a world football thread under this heading is quite appropriate and doesn’t need to have a separate place.

Thank you to the person who started this World Cup thread as I am having a wonderful time enjoying conversations with like mind people.

Hope these comments help others to understand football.

Thank you Red.
And as I explained to Honza , this thread has virtually been my lifeline with you, Neil, Pod , Altair ,Joe and sky.
So I thank you all.

Also, and let's not forget all the good work that the football clubs do , not only in the immediate community , but worldwide . Not to mention all that the individual footballers do and give to so many charities and good causes.

I can understand people that don't like football not "getting it"...
But those of us that love the beautiful game are a "family " , and very very very much a "team".

Of course football belongs on SF it has helped me greatly both playing and following it.

There are plenty of footballers of faith who actually display their faith on the pitch, eg signing the cross after scoring and if you do a google there is a wealth of stuff like this.

Beyond the Pitch: How Football Transcends Borders, Cultures, and Socioeconomic Barriers to Unite People Worldwide

Beyond the Pitch: How Football Transcends Borders, Cultures, and Socioeconomic Barriers to Unite People Worldwide

Football, also known as soccer, is more than just a game. It is a universal language that connects people from different countries, cultures, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Regardless of where you are from or what language you speak, the passion for football is something that transcends barriers and unites individuals all over the world. If you’re looking for informative essay topics, exploring the cultural impact of football and its ability to bring people together could be an intriguing subject to delve into.

Absolutely brilliant Podshell .
All of it so true and Thank you.

My friend's grandson in uni in Liverpool doing a sports degree and a group of them, as part of their studies , went over to the Philippines to teach football to schoolchildren from a poor background .

The kids were so thrilled , they actually thought the university students were "famous footballers" and they were in awe of them.

After their return to UK and to uni they organised a sponsored walk and fundraising event to raise money to send to the school so they could buy footballs, goals , kits etc....

So yes.
Football really DOES unite people from all around the world.

Lovely comments Pod. And yes agree with what you say about the game.

I have to mention that Mo Salah built a complete football field, club and academy for his village in Eygpt plus a hospital and a school for girls. Plus he bought hundreds of cylinders of oxygen to his people during the pandemic. He also pays a pension each month to families who are under a certain amount of income in his village. He also advocates for equality for women. Now that is really something in a Muslim country.

But I’m happy to say a lot of footballers do this who come from poor countries and it makes me so happy to hear about things like that.

Yes football certainly does unite and contributes to a lot happiness around the world.

........ and I thought everyone was getting along fine.

I like science fiction, westerns, etc. but I try not to push it on others. As for Football, it seems to resonate with a few and they really get along with each other.

I am also very glad the womens game has gained more interest in recent years, I do think there would be a great market for many of the non league games on some sort of freeview local channel.

He Does indeed. Not only does he like it, he plays it.
They are called Roma Curia united and their biggest rivals are Vatican city.
They play in the backyard of the Vatican
