I think it's the brain. I don't believe the self is real. We are real but we are just awareness that gets sucked into thoughts and memories and stuff like that and come to think of ourselves as a self, an individual. When really we are one, the collective. "We are one in the spirit we are one in the Lord, and one day our unity will be restored" Anyone heard that song in church?

I asked ' What is the source of 'self' not 'a' self or 'the self'.
Yes I have heard the Hymn you mentioned many moons ago.

Good afternoon innerlight
Quote, “For God so loved the world that….” How would we finish this verse if we were asked to finish it ?
Love as in what we feel
or consciousness

Really it's two fold. The brain gives what is necessary for awareness to imagine self exists. The brain just creates the junk the soul uses to imagine self in my opinion. A lot of things exist as imagined like Santa Claus or the Tooth Fairy and Superman and lot's more. Billions of things I think. None of these things actually are real like self. But billions of humans may think and act and talk and even experience them like they are real. So self exists like Superman, imagination created reality. That's what I meant by no self. Self is not real like Superman but it is real as an imagined thing and experience I think. So it's complicated. I think the basic sense or source of self is made possible by what the brain is and does and makes.

Have you ever though about primal 'Self' all that we are at the source of creation ?. What we are really are before we start adding to and thus create a sense of separation from others....
What is our true face before we where born sums it up for me personally....

Sometimes its necessary in order to function in society as it stand now. Our nature can be primordial and doesn’t fit into the life we live now. Thankfully most of us can adapt by altering our behaviour to suit a situation....

Good afternoon Maisy
At what cost
As a kid I pinched something, it felt like I had over step a mark, lost something
Yet at the same time we do, if not by our own design, to become in lockstep to this world.
I don't know if nature is the right word, in my defense, school was never my favorite subject

personally i think that is true of all of us to an extent. Eden is such a long way away that society would voice its disapproval if someone in the know tried to describe it lol... which means... noone will ever even wanna be in the know for fear of ostracism... and we think we know things that are actually of consequence anyway.... lol..
