There are spiritual practices along extreme pain.
Once I had my mind in a thousand pieces, and I could reach a transcendent state precisely because my body was very painful.
In my childhood, I often had horrible migraines, and I think that's how I learned to put myself in other mental states.

I don't recommend though, sitting still is enough.
Think of it like a weaning process. All the pain you feel is loss of your attachments. Those attachments create that sense of personal self. Life can rip those things from you; those symbolic trinkets of our wealth, or that powerful car that gives us our strength, and relationships that give us love, yet come and go. We can then start to look within for those things. Looking within ain't easy.

lol, no, sometimes life gives "children" to people so that they can survive and adapt in the changing world, and stop living like centuries ago.
It's a very painful (but rewarding) process for the body-soul showing the way, and I guess it's as painful for the other souls to actualize their knowings (precisely because they shut themselves to the Source / God / Nature).

That was my life's purpose, how I've been useful to this world.
A tiny bit of light.
