Here's a very nice explanation on how the 7 chakra system came to be.
For me chakra are mere idea's and focal points that help us guide our understanding and ability to manipulate our being to where we want to go. Shamanic journeying, the chinese acupuncture points and meridian system does the same thing. In my humble opinion of course..

The advantage of theory or scriptures is that it quietens doubts and fears of lower mind and the disadvantage is that it leads to anticipation, mentally fixing a certain trajectory, which becomes a subtle desire that may manifest the illusion we seek.

On a first principle basis, let us say there are no chakras, no kundalini, chi or Holy Spirit. We don’t negate since negation too is an affirmation, we just take a neutral stance, resting in silence, formless, void-centric, in as much as we are able. Essentially, my submission is that then, that that is, like the light of the sun, in this case ethereal magnetism, it inevitably ignites our form. I’d say, it is inescapable unless we are into mind, thought, a this or that formatted practice, a ritual.

Ultimately, theory does not matter. The activation is clear and distinct, vivid and vibrant, leaving no room whatsoever for doubt. It is a guided process, guided in as, the guide may be invisible but is always there. The universe provides all assistance, it suggests the mantras, communicates telepathically as and when needed. There is nothing to be done except to be receptive, in childlike trust.

The reason why each awakening is different is simply because of our heart’s desire in subconscious. If we wish to see Shiva in a this or that form, so it is. If we want a goddess to pamper us, She does and so on. No harm but in my view, ultimately we need to let go of all forms, appearances, domains and realms. Why not reverse polarity and become the energy itself, the kundalini itself? Surely, if we are here limited, seeking grace from that that is unlimited, with this belief, we are already in bondage.
