Has anything ever hurt your pride?

I've put this in the Christian section because Christians call pride the cardinal sin. If that is the case we ought not have any pride. Yet me as a casual Christian have felt my pride being hurt on numerous occasions.

The way I see it the reality that we call 'earth' is ruthlessly efficient. It is pure in some sense of the word but it is very indifferent to our plight. In other words we die and suffer without earth showing any mercy. That kind of hurts my pride.

Perhaps if I did not have any pride earth would seem perfect like some people say it is. I find calling earth perfect incredibly insensitive. It is like calling a killer 'perfect'.

To me as a Christian reality is more about ones relationship with pride than it is about having a quiet mind. Much modern spirituality becomes a mind game. It is sort of "quieten the mind and all will be well". I'm not convinced.

i learned to watch myself at an early age because if I get prideful, bad things always happen. Nowadays I pretty much see it coming and avoid it as much as possible...

In a more realistic sense, being prideful for me is one of the ways I 'go away' and 'quit paying attention'. Like I'm so happy with myself and what I am doing that I can't see what is happening around me any more? Because I'm having too much fun thinking about how great I am?

I always wondered if other people have the same problem and just don't know it...

IMO, there are different types of pride, some healthy and others unhealthy…. I do not see it as a Cardinal Sin…
You can be proud of yourself and your actions without comparing yourself to others.

The subject of pride is very big. I agree with sky that there are different types of pride - ranging from dignity, self respect to conceit and arrogance.

''Pride can manifest in several ways, ranging from healthy self-esteem and accomplishment to
negative expressions like arrogance and self-centeredness.
It can also be a source of social behaviors like helping others and promoting oneself.
Furthermore, pride can be categorized into authentic and hubristic forms, each with distinct
emotional and behavioral implications''

-Online

I learned a lot looking up pride...It opened my eyes that gossip or judging is pride...as in...
"And then she did this and this, how silly."
It is saying, "I am better and smarter than another person."

Also, I questioned ''Cardinal Sin". Apparently, Cardinal sin is not widely used, at all, by any religions.
I did not know that

''The Seven Deadly Sins, also known as the Capital Sins, are a list of vices considered particularly grave in Christian theology.
They are not considered the "worst" sins, but rather the root vices from which other sins often arise.
The sins are Pride, Greed, Envy, Anger, Lust, Gluttony, and Sloth''

Each of the above clearly has roots in identity. So simply inquiring, ‘to whom comes this feeling of Pride, Greed, Envy,
Anger, Lust, Gluttony, and Sloth’, as the case may be, delusion is dispelled.

The lower ego self? The individualized 'false' self? The unrealized self?
The part of self that is attached to this nutty psycho planet?
The part if called, 'you dirty-filthy, low-life liar', actually believes that;
AND believes the source of that comment is important and real?
