We are human spirits borne out of the radiation of the Divine.

We can never be God, and to think this way serves only to hinder your own progress and understanding of this Creation.

Be careful of these self-serving thoughts, and know that their origin is not of the true Light.

Yes it does but .....God forbade the worship of statues, but he did not forbid the Religious use of them, He actually commanded their use in Religious contexts....

Exodus 25:18-20 NIV

18 And make two cherubim out of hammered gold at the ends of the cover. 19 Make one cherub on one end and the second cherub on the other; make the cherubim of one piece with the cover, at the two ends.

The orthodox church has an amazing iconography even on the inner walls of the church, when I look at those amazing paintings it is like I am moved internally. For example, my family and close family have a ton of icons but we do not worship them, they are ways to remember of God and all of those who throughout history were part of the church. We used to have the famous Last Supper, it was actually a huge carpet that was placed on the walls.

I understand @sky why people feel the need to have these objects, firstly, it starts like this, they need a way to connect with God from without but later on down the road a times comes ( maybe not even in this life ) when one looks within for God. At least that's how I see it...

I agree with the external and internal you mentioned.
I have a beautiful Russian Orthodox Icon given as a gift from a Russian Sailor many years ago. It is a tiny (1 inch ) oil painting on a block of wood, very old. When I look at it I think of the gift from God given to the Painter, do I worship it... no.
My Mum had a house full of Statues and Her Holy Pictures she would use them to visualize the Person behind them but never as articles of worship.

Well, if one believes in Jesus, one can believe they are.
The Bible has something to say about presumption though.

We're in this evolved, mortal framework, true?

Anyone going around claiming to be The Almighty will have many looking at them as if they are in need of meds.

Or perhaps saying, ''Oh yeah, show us...''

Prepare yourself for the coming astral journey of death by daily riding in the balloon of God-perception.
Through delusion you are perceiving yourself as a bundle of flesh and bones, which at best is a nest of troubles.
Meditate unceasingly, that you may quickly behold yourself as the Infinite Essence, free from every form of misery. ~Paramahansa's Guru's Guru

Words of an expanded consciousness, you need not religion/spirituality to reach such a level of understanding for the human condition. We are all human beings
