Everything being consciousness, the kundalini too is consciousness. Energy. God. Us. As one.

In my view, we may have realisation in one form or another even without kundalini awakening. However, perhaps at some point, the kundalini would necessarily stabilise within form, irrespective of the path.

The four main paths In Tantra are -

Krama: ascent & descent through different vibrations (chakras) correspondent to kundalini

Pratyabhijna: re-cognition ... spontaneous awakening

Spanda : vibration ... chanting a mantra, resonation with chosen vibration. Satsang.

Kaula: surrender of lower mind, plunging into fearless celebration, moment to moment, in childlike innocence.

As we reduce attachment to mind-body, the state of in-form consciousness inches closer to God consciousness or the singular one consciousness, which we too are but which is veiled by maya.

Kundalini is the awakening of creative source energy from the base of the spine upward in the central energy channel in the body, the sushumna in Sanskrit. It happens spontaneously with a level of openness in consciousness, and continues that development.

When we really investigate kundalini we discover that it is rather more complicated than originally thought.

Six possible pathways for kundalini rising are given.
  1. Lakshmi Nadi is rare and potentially dangerous, with the risk of spontaneous combustion.
  2. Brahma Nadi - this allows a good kundalini passage
  3. Chitrini Nadi - this allows a good kundalini passage
  4. Sushumna Nadi - this allows a good kundalini passage
  5. Vajra Nadi - this can create a difficult kundalini passage
  6. Saraswati Nadi - this can create a difficult kundalini passage.
There is a vertical axis going up the spine linking the root chakra to the brow chakra called Meru Danda which contains various subtle channels.

The outermost subtle channel is Sushumna Nadi, which is why kundalini rising is usually associated with the sushumna.
Within Sushumna Nadi is Vajra Nadi.
Within Vajra Nadi is Chitrini Nadi.
Within Chitrini Nadi is Brahma Nadi, the most subtle channel.

Saraswati Nadi runs outside Meru Danda.

Ida and Pingala, commonly known through pranayama practices, are not pathways for kundalini but they transport the life force of prana. Different pranas function in different parts of the body and will be affected by different pranayama practices. The correct balance of prana is necessary to activate kundalini within the root chakra.

There are also three major obstacles or caps for kundalini to break through on the upward journey. These are at the root, heart and brow chakras. Sushumna Nadi ends at the brow chakra, and the final ascent of kundalini from the brow to the crown can only take place within Brahma Nadi.

So when we investigate kundalini we realise that most peoples understanding of kundalini is very simplistic.

Peace

@ iamthat ... Wow! That’s quite detailed ... didn’t know this bit of theory. Please send link to the pdf containing this, if available, thanks.

Hi Unseeking Seeker

I am not aware of any pdf which contains this information.

A few years ago I read Wired for God: Adventures of a Jewish Yogi by Dani Antman. She describes doing kundalini practices under Joan Shivarpita Harrigan, who was a disciple of Swami Chandrasekharanand Saraswati. I then purchased further books from this lineage which go into kundalini practices in more detail than I have found elsewhere, from which the above information is taken.

These books are:
Joan Shivarpita Harrigan - Kundalini Vidya: The Science of Spiritual Transformation
Joan Shivarpita Harrigan - Stories of Spiritual Transformation
Kiu Eckstein - Kundalini, The Master and the Disciple

These books are not available on Kindle, so I purchased hard copies. Which is a good thing because Joan Shivarpita Harrigan's books have numerous diagrams which really need the hard copy to be appreciated.

Peace
