What is there that is not spiritual ?
Yesterday, I had lunch with an insightful somewhat intellectual (like my former little self) meditation buddy who is a grad student applying for a Fulbright Fellowship. Our discussion on "spiritual things" reminded me of an incident with my teacher many years ago.
When I arrived back at the temple slightly late after lunch with other members of the ashram, my teacher asked if we were delayed because we were "gossiping".
I responded strongly and said that we were discussing "spiritual things".
She then said: "What is there that is not spiritual?"
I was stunned into silence and could not reply. |

I would have said I am not spiritual. I'm an ego and added gossiping is not spiritual either. Said many things are not spiritual, murder and so on, wars, abuse, brutality. I get the idea she was attempting tp push there but there is no doubt higher and lower energies exist and so it all depends what she meant by the word "spiritual." If it all serves some higher purpose or is the source it is spiritual. But succumbing to lower energies, feeding them, is a spiritual fail in my thinking. If she saw gossiping and being late as spiritual why was she asking about it? |

Are you your name, your personality or body, or are they just 'Tools' you use to expressing yourself in this external world ? Are you really your thoughts and emotions or are you the 'Space' in which they arise....... I am not my ego, it's an illusion which can be useful until you get to a place where it's not needed, imo
