That's certainly the simplest option. Perhaps we should all do similarly.

Reading for family and friends.
I am lazy so I rarely read cards but when I do, this is how I generally read the cards.
I have the person shuffle the cards or do whatever they want.
Then I decide with 'myself' how many cards the reading will be.
I have the person put the cards face down in a stack.
I ask the person what they want to learn from the reading.
Then I begininning reading the first card. When done, I ask them to flip over the top card.
I repeat this for all the other cards.
I also do variations of this reading.

These days I shuffle the cards 3 times and split the cards in a place i feel strongly drawn to its useualy some where near the middle of the pack.
And the card that is showing i use as part of the reading.
I do this 3 times some times i use the cards in the order thay come out other times i arrange them into a way that makes sense.
1st card past 2nd present 3rd what happens next.
Then i turn the cards over and the card at the bottom of the pack that is showing i use as the future card but you have to go through the first 3 cards to get to this one.
I like to use the number 3 i think it is a spiritual/ magical number.

I suspect why you are successful with Tarot cards is your comfort with 3 which I suspect helps you get into an altered state for the reading.
Do you ever feel like you might be in a trance state? For example, do you always remember what you say during the reading or do you 'forget' or can't remember parts of the reading?

When I used to read for the public i used the Celtic cross and that was 10 cards.
But i mostly just read for myself these days if there is some thing on my mind. And I find the 3 card reading is very good for that.
When I used to read for the public i would never remember the cards
or what i said during the reading.
When i now read for myself i write down the cards and the question i asked and put it in my diary on the day of the reading.
When I shuffle the cards i let my mind go blank if it is for some one i know if its a reading for me i just think about my question if its for
some one i don't know i look at the person while shuffling the cards and pick up their vibe.
When I pick up the cardsy yes I do go into a trance like altered state but I never really thought about it that much i took it for granted.

Bias?
or is it getting down to what they want a reading on?
Sure, I can do a cold reading but a lot of times, people are not interested in 'that', they are interested in something specific.
Either way, I really don't care.........
