@Morpheus:

All being said though, I think we arrive at the same destination. We're taking different trains though, and different routes. Personally, I want something like the ideal of a bullet train.. fast, simple, high-tech and elegant. It's a journey with no obstacles or complications. I feel life should be a joy, not homework that you're forced to do.

Prepare yourself for the coming astral journey of death by daily riding in the balloon of God-perception.
Through delusion you are perceiving yourself as a bundle of flesh and bones, which at best is a nest of troubles.
Meditate unceasingly, that you may quickly behold yourself as the Infinite Essence, free from every form of misery. ~Paramahansa's Guru's Guru

What's wrong with filthy rags? They're only filthy because they have done a fine job of cleaning some thing. More to the point though, what is wrong with filth? Cleanliness has its identity in the shadow of dirt. Filth and rags are god. There are no ashamed feelings. Prince is a pauper. :-)

Ms. Hep.
Tell him he misquoted that. The verse doesn't say we are filthy rags.

Say's all our "works" are as filthy rags. Our relationship with Him is based on Love, not pride, and His compassion and mercy. We have nothing to boast about except His love.

But when you really think about it, it is kind of a hilarious misquote.

"And God said, ye are all like filthy rags in my sight?"

I think I'll stop posting on Christianity-based threads. It's not something I can really comment on.

Nice! What's wrong with being a sinner, it's not as bad as they make it out to be. It's better to accept yourself exactly as you are instead of crying about your sins and pleading for someone to save you. Be happy as a filthy sinner! If you really want to change yourself, fighting and hating yourself is not the way to do it.

Depends I assume on what kind of Christian one is. Those self flagilating ones seem a bit uncondusive to self esteem, I would think that the need to punish oneself physically appears an admittance of sin requiring the need for a very severe atonement.

On the other hand there seems to be some who live in an advanced state of euphoria basking in the Love of Christ.

So truthfully, I think it depends entirely upon the flavour of Christianity one is involved in. A recent study...which i cant reference at this time. suggests that people with a faith live longer than those without a faith...So your guess would be as good if not better than mine.

I've known Christians that seemed very happy from their faith, but there was still an underlying unhappiness not so evident on the surface. I don't see how the mind can totally ignore messages that say you're a sinner deserving of punishment.
