Geometric shapes

When I meditate I see geometric shapes. It was happening a lot then it seemed to stop. I know others see geometric shapes, what exactly are they about? What do they mean and why do I see them and why would they stop coming? Any info/opinions you have or experiences would be helpful. I have been meditating daily for about 7 months.

Welcome to Spiritual Forums.

Geometry is the natural process of and ever expanding universe. The symbols you see MIGHT be archetypal in nature depicting the interaction between energy and material thought. Could be thought forms coming into or going out of being, dissolving, etc., back to their basic symbolic expression.

There are all sorts of esoteric symbols, but generally if it has long straight lines it may have a masculine component. Curves indicate feminine; gender is in everything. There are lots of very general things that can be said about symbols, and symbols interact with each other to form a language.

Can’t say what it is without further examination. Carl Jung, a pioneer in psychology, put forth the concept that archetypal symbols reside in our sub-conscious, and they have a big influence on us. There is lots of information about this online. But as far as this happening in meditation, it just may be passing scenery on the way to somewhere else; you and it. Everything is on its way somewhere and yet there is no place to go in the expanse of stillness.

Geometric patterns are one of the classic and more common forms of hypnagogia. Aside from meditation it's also experienced when going to sleep and used as a lucid dreaming induction method.

Among the more commonly reported, and more thoroughly researched, sensory features of hypnagogia are phosphenes which can manifest as seemingly random speckles, lines or geometrical patterns, including form constants, or as figurative (representational) images.

Another aspect of hypnagogia is called the hypnic jerk or kick. That's the sensation just as one's slipping off into sleep of a sudden fall that startles one right back to wakefulness.

I used to get that often but haven't for a very long time. It's very odd but I think most people have experienced this?

Another is the reverse of the kick and not as dramatic and while one still has a decent amount of waking consciousness. It feels like you're starting to levitate off the bed.

Wow and thank you for that info and your help. That is interesting to me because when I meditate and go deep and see the geometric shapes, my legs and arms and sometimes my stomach jerk a bit sometimes more intensely than others. So all this makes sense to me. Now that I know I am going deep what do I do in meditation? Just keep on keeping on with my meditations as I have and see where it leads?
