Good/Bad Day in Animal Welfare !

Good first. From January 1st, battery hens are banned in the UK. This is an EU ruling which some mainland countries including the French [surprise, surprise !] have decided to ignore. So, British produced eggs sold in British shops will be more humanely produced and will carry the Lion stamp. Best bet is to just go for free-range organics and ignore any without the stamp.

Bad news. The sick, sadistic perverts are baying to bring back fox hunting again and our "esteemed leader" is said to be for it [again - surprise, surprise !] Time to get another petition rolling I think plus "other" actions.

It's good about the battery hen eggs being banned

I don't understand why anyone would want to bring fox hunting back though. It's cruel.

Excellent new regarding the battery hens, long long overdue, but great that the decision has finally been made.
As for fox hunting, I don't think it ever actually went away, they're just being more sneaky about it these days.. But NO WAY should it be made legal again & I for one will figt tooth & nail to ensure it isnt

I think thats wonderful news too re: the battery hens ... and lets hope the attempts to allow fox hunting again fail once and for all.

You know I must say, i spent 2 and a bit years in the UK a few years back and i truly admire the way English people treat their animals.
You guys really do it well with your pets and deserve any recognition you get for that. i was so impressed ... people out walking their dogs rain hail shine snow.
My daughter wanted a cat while we were living there, so, after much persuasion (against my better judgment), i enquired at a cat rescue centre. I was given the third degree and they wanted to come out for a visit and check out where the cat would be residing and interview me personally to establish whether or not i was equipped to provide the level of care needed ... it was remarkable ... I didn't get the cat because i wasn't convinced it was a wise move anyway and decided against it but yes ... you guys are very committed to the care and protection of animals ... humble bows

I live in France but I'm not French. Regarding battery chickens, the EU deadlines have now expired and all farmers EU-wide (including France) will face punishment if they do comply with new welfare rules. You can read about it here: http://connexionfrance.com/Battery-h...w-article.html
