Even woodpeckers kick out the kids

We have a woodpecker family that nested in a telephone pole behind the house.

One day I heard a ruckus going on and saw the mother pushing the baby out of the nest area on the pole out across the telephone line. She's doing her woodpecker chewing out thing until the baby is about 10 feet away from the nest on the telephone line.

Finally she puts out one wing--the one toward the baby-- as if to say "Don't you even think about coming back here!" I'd never seen anything like it before.

I guess even woodpecker mom's get to the point where they have to get the kids out of the house!

Yes--I really enjoy them. Ravens are pretty crazy too. One near us hangs upside down on the telephone line and peaks in the window.

Great to watch. [And I tend to get messages from guides through birds too.]

Like all things, they have to be pushed out of their comfort zone to get anywhere in life. Else they'd just stay in the same place for ever. You have to be cruel to be kind
