Checked out some pics. of Chillagoe....NICE!!!!
Was going to ask if there are ceremonies held there.
Then I seen it's a big tourist trap.
Just like Bear Butte and Devils Tower and Black Hills Sacred sites.
I have not been to Bear Butte in years and heard it has only gotten harder
to hold ceremonies without being intruded upon, since Sturgis is just down the road a piece.
Tourists have rights too, I'm told.LOL

A song about Bread and Cheese By a Tribe Called Red(Feat. black Bear)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FB52kZO13Pk

I remember eating Bread and Cheese out of the trunk along the roadside.
And being Thankful.
The good old days.

A continued thought on Bear Butte.
It hurts deep to see this.(Vid. 3 mins.)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YA1pX-sDEtA

Not just because I and my wife have cherished memories of vision questing and helping
others to vision quest here, but because it is where many of Medicine and Holy people
have received their visions and became Medicine people back thousands of years.
Many untold numbers have pilgrimaged to this Holy Site and left changed forever.
I can see more recent pics. and vids. and even the Trees are leaving Bear Butte.
Once again the religion of the frog skins is prevailing. SADSAD

sentient when I wrote that Bear Butte is the Bear from Devils Tower I may have
conflated the two legends. But I still remember it being told that way to me.
It is possible I, at the time conflated them or just misunderstood the telling.

A familiar sight at the beginning of the video.
Spirit or Holy Trees (Trees to which you sometimes brought offerings) having been decorated with ribbons.
I love it and it warms my heart when people still remember to listen to the trees.

Thankfully Chillagoe is still such an outback township where visitors do not create much disturbance.
Although the first time I went there - I went there with a group of environmental students, who should have known better, yet upon arrival started to treat the area as their ‘playground’.

It drove me mad, because the ‘singing’ of the rock formations was so strong it was pulling me ‘under’ – yet I could not let the ‘singing’ carry/take me to an ‘altered state’ (to its ‘dreaming’, perhaps one could say), because of the loud yahooing.

So, I hear you ImthatIm – know what you mean.
Those are the times when the cultural differences really hit home – hard.

P.S.
I know the Steven ‘n’ Seagulls song was silly.
And I do not wish your motorized vehicles into a ditch.
But at least the humour punctures a hole into some sentimental notions we might have about our ‘freedom bikes’ or trucks or tractors …
I am yet to see how my relationship with my electric pushbike grows
