    As I approached the Canyon,
         you would never notice
                 it was there
             till you get there.

              Wide and deep
           with a cool breeze
                  rising up
                   to cool
                 the body
           from its journey.

                  A hawk
              down below
               glides thru
              the Canyon
               with ease
             as a Squirrel
                looks on.

               The crispness
                  of the air
                reminds me
                    of the
                cycle of life.

            Life springs forth
             and then wanes
                  and dies
              only to repeat
             the cycle again.

                The light
                   shines
                     thru
              the darkness
                    as the
                  beginning
                      of a
                   new day.

                  The dew
                   has not
               disappeared
                     as if
                    licked
                away by the
                  invisible
               as the wind
                 picks up
               her tempo.

              The thorn hurts
              but she tells me
            she has a message
         but I must listen silently
              to receive what is
                 given so as to
              not repeat it again.

            The Dust Devils
         twirling in the driveway
            mimic the big ones
           dancing on the playa.


                How they play
     tirelessly without any concerns
         as they pick up the small
              pieces of dirt and
          then without any effort
      drop them in a nice pattern.

                 Their dance
                 is like music
             and their rhythm
               is methodical
              as they dance
              the day away.

.... I Love how "they" pick up the small pieces of dirt , and then without any effort, drop them in a nice pattern......

I have seen them do that will hay that has just been cut. When seeing it in 'action', it looks like a silent 'musical' language all of its own.

And then..... they can get out of hand.
One day, I passed a Playa that at one time was Cochise Lake or was it Lake Cochise...... whatever. The Dust Devils that day were dancing up a 'storm', getting stronger by the moment. Shortly after I passed the Playa, I stopped at a truck stop that has a diner and had a buffet. As I was eating, a truck hauling a camper trailer ran into one of those big Dust Devils. The truck and camping trailer got smashed up and the driver died. The driver was a woman. Sad.

As a young child, I used to watch them play in our dirt driveway. I was fascinated at their rhythmic movements and how much energy they had.

If you had some Dust Devils, I am pretty sure they would have entertained you. I am pretty sure I know of a nice 'young man' who would love to see them.

... We do not get many , if any, dust/ sand storms because our climate is too wet too create dust. On the odd occasion it happens, as it did in the summer of 76. Sides of the road, dust building up at the sides of the pavement... The roads were melting etc....
