I guess you are right. God does not punish pride but likes humility and helps humble ones. In my view, God (Higher Self) itself is humble.
Proud ones are deprived from God's help and they lack luck. After all pride means you don't want God's help.
EDIT: Pride, IMHO, like other problems, is healed with love. Being proud is the most normal thing and God wants to heal it.
