A twist on that one.
"No matter what material possessions you have collected or hoarded in your life", it will account for nothing in the afterlife". -me

I prefer the more succinct, 'You can't take it with you.' Not sure who said it first though.

The thing I find with this it is very succinct. What can't you take and Where can't you take it?

It's pretty self-explanatory, I don't think it needs spelling out.

It is when you know the context. If you went up to a stranger who was none the wiser of what we're crapping on about, do you think they would know what was meant by "You can't take it with you"?
They would ask what and where and look at you very strangely.

I just prefer it as a quote - it makes the same point but it's much snappier, which is what makes it memorable. Nothing against you personally

No offence or taken. If you where to start this again with your succinct quote, people would scratch their heads and ask. Because there is no context. Where you and I know there is because we've been discussing it.
It does make the point because it is context related. Say it to someone without the context and you get scrambled eggs. What? Exactly. IMO

'When David Gilmour plays his guitar, he uses his soul as the amplifier!' - Youtube comment
(And just to underline this point, I give you his second solo on 'Comfortably Numb'.)
