It's probably a good time...

...to meditate on world peace.

It's not a notion that resonates with me personally, though it interests me nonetheless now that you've brought it up - what does it actually entail in practice, how do you go about meditating on world peace?

Just like loving-kindness meditation. Hmm... Just drop "world" and go with peace meditation. Basically extend calm, happiness and peace to one's self first and then slowly extend it outward. To a loved one, a friend, a respected one, an acquaintance or coworker, a stranger, a difficult one, all humans, all beings.

You can Google loving-kindness to get the general feeling. It's a kind of silent mantra combined with focus on the heart center, feeling the emotion engulf and then radiate.

Prepare yourself for the coming astral journey of death by daily riding in the balloon of God-perception.
Through delusion you are perceiving yourself as a bundle of flesh and bones, which at best is a nest of troubles.
Meditate unceasingly, that you may quickly behold yourself as the Infinite Essence, free from every form of misery. ~Paramahansa's Guru's Guru

Okay, thanks for elaborating (I'll google loving-kindness meditation too, per your suggestion). I think extending calm, happiness, and peace to one's self first is the right way to go about it, seems a bit pointless focusing on world peace if you're not at peace within yourself first.

In my teacher's Prayer for Peace, which I say at least once daily, there are two lines that are very consistent with your excellent post.

"May ALL be happy.
May ALL be peaceful."

My teacher emphasized the word "ALL" and pointed out that there is no "except" clause. "ALL" means "ALL".

It is my understanding that uplifting positive thoughts of this nature elevate the expanded consciousness (the Jungian collective unconscious).

Dr. David Hawkins (MD/Psychiatrist/Spiritual-Mentor) did an experiment with his meditation students. He hooked them up to brain wave machines that one sees in Intensive Care Units (ICU). When given a negative thought, the brain waves had low amplitude and low frequency ... suggesting LOW ENERGY being radiated. However, when he gave them positive thoughts, the brain waves had high amplitude and high frequency ... suggesting HIGH ENERGY radiating outward to ALL.

Great post/thread!

Yes, I recommend his books! Ha "Discovery of the Presence of God" -
"The Map of Consciousness Explained"
To name 2 of a dozen!

Even for something like breath, mantra, effortless or whatever technique there should always be an intention that goes beyond self. At least that's my understanding and approach.

The thing about thoughts and expanded consciousness... It seems to me it's all speculation until it isn't. I've given considerable thought to precognition for example, and it's quite evident time and space are not relevant. Apparently neither is brain and mind.

Thanks to this thread I have been led into an unintended but beneficial study of peace as it appears in the Bible. The concordance specifically drew my attention to the numerous appearances of ‘peace’ in Leviticus. The KJV repeatedly mentions peace offerings……the NIV translates these as fellowship offerings. The noteworthy aspect is that peace offerings provided the rare opportunity for the Israelites to share a meal with meat. All other sacrifices of both grain and meats were either burnt or made available only for the benefit of the priesthood. The peace offering implied a recognition of peace with God as well as with one’s fellow man. This is interesting because we tend to focus on peace in relation to how we deal with others either neglecting or ignoring the necessity of being at peace with God. Leviticus 7 provides the specifics for much of this. There actually are gems in the almost mind-numbing specifics of the OT in regards to the law…..:)

Should not there be a progression of peace ? IMO….first, peace with God/Spirit…second, peace with yourself and then, ultimately, peace with your fellow men…..
