Quoting does not work

About 1 in 10 times there are problems when quoting another post. It can take different forms:
* Quoted text cannot be edited at all
* New text goes in front of quoted text, cursor cannot be positioned anywhere else.
* Own text is following quoted text but can only be edited by backspacing to the error and retyping.

Anybody else has such problems?

Are you making your own quote, or using the quote button? If you are making your own quote chances are the coding wasn't fully correct.

I am using the quote button which always seems to work except for the editing. In many case quoting a whole post is an absolute waste if one want to comment on a specific issue only.

You can do one of two things:

1. quote the whole thing and just delete the parts you want out OR highlight and save the part you want, delete it, then copy it back in once you've removed the rest.

2. just highlight the part you want, and then use the quote box and insert the part you want, it just won't show whom you are quoting.

if you are editing your post make sure you don't edit into the code for the quote. Most times when I see broken quotes it's because the code has been changed and is not the correct code to use a quote.

Got to Advanced Edit
Type wherever you can type to get beyond the 10 characters one needs to post or preview a reply.
Preview Post (you may have to try multiple times)
You may then be able to edit in the normal fashion in the reopened window.
