Does the compulsive liar also simulate illnesses, create heavy debts? If so it is probably a personality disorder. People who believe their lies probably suffer from pseudologia fantastica.

I've been working with one - alas she is alcoholic alongside it. I've had to have a break from her as it has driven me bats!
All sorts of reasons why someone lies compulsively - there is a need to be kind and see if their confidence can be developed so there is no need to lie?
It's a symptom of a deep problem.
Pray for them, send them light but don't buy into the lies.

I have dated two (uh oh... do I see a pattern here? lol), and I'm with Belle on this. Pray for them, but at the same time cut your relationship as much as you can with them. Sometimes they're so deeply into their lies that they don't even know what the truth is anymore. Be careful.

Oh hec. I've dated a couple as well!
But, with compulsive liars, they often truly believe their lies. And therein lies a lot of the problems.

compulsive liars really believe their lies?? I have never heard that before! I thought they just lied to try and look good or out of guilt or something like that, i have a friend of a friend who hangs around a lot (one of those that tags along with the group and stuff) and lies constantly and takes credit for things they didnt do at all and it really tries my patience the way they act, because i always figured they were just trying to look good...i wonder whether they believe their lies too :(
