I would venture to offer that that answer will be dependent on whether one views reality through the broadened lens of idealism, the narrower lens of monistic idealism, or through the funnel of materialism, or the tighter still "intravenous drip" of material realism.

I suspect it would be safe to assume that all things would eventually be sorted out by a higher authority than our own;

That being the "Intelligent Designer," or the Intelligent "Design (itself)" of Reality.

Listen to spiritual guides and teachers. If they haven't bothered trying to explain difference, why should we worry about trying to find out if there is one?
