Welcome the the forum traveller. I think if more people took your Explore Before Posting approach, there would be a lot fewer problems on forums. Keep in mind that no matter what the focus of a forum, it's made up of folks just like you and me. You might want to start by reading our Expaned Forum Rules so you know what to expect. Welcome to SF, traveller. I can understand being wary...I've had some unpleasant experiences myself, so share what you want when you want. No one here is likely to insist on more than that. Look forward to seeing you around the board.

I have also had unpleasant experiences on other forums, so I understand your caution totally. But I have to say that this place is the best I've come across so far!  Hope you enjoy it here as much as I do.
