What is your opinion of the Bible?

many will not like this but here goes.

I have no opinion on book which is written by man to control man.Emperor Constantine ordered 200 men or so, to go into a room and to come up with a religion that would stop men fighting and killing each other and not to come out until they had found one.

That is an opinion...and I agree with it.
Constantine did a good job for the civil unrest at the time...defining what a Christian 'is'.
The deifnition has never changed.

King James messed with it, the Bible...you don't think so, guys?
Ask me I'll tell you where to look when I have time.

They found some old scriptures, dusted them off and continued to fabricate. Evidence will be found in the dungeons of the Vatican. I could tell you some more truths but that would make your hair curl.

The Bible is trusted about as much as Plato's dialogues Timaeus and Critias which provided the first discussion about Atlantis.

The Bible is interesting and contains wonderful myths and bits of knowledge, Can we trust it? No. Why? Because it is not written by God, it was written by man, who was trying to codify what they believed their God would set down as laws. When used for inspiration or for glimpses of life long ago, it is invaluable.
But as we do not know who actually wrote (or collected previous writings) and do not have any idea if they were qualified to translate from the ancient languages, it is not a trustworthy tome.

And we know that there have been many re-interpretations of it over the ages. How can we have any faith that the most recent translation is the right and true one?

For me the thing to ask is can we trust our understanding of the Bible ? It is the Spirit that reveals the depth of Scripture instead of better translations. Yet people cling to the literal mindset.

Yes I know EXACTLY what you are talking about when you mention the Vatican. They’ve got a hell of a lot to answer for.

I definitely agree with native spirit and hazzard re the bible and here is my take on it.

Firstly, the New Testament was written approx 40 years after Jesus death, so you gotta ask yourself how much did people remember that was correct and how much was distorted. A bit like the game “Chinese whispers”. We know scientifically that long term memory is not reliable.

Secondly, the original version was written in Aramaic, then transcribed into Hebrew, then Greek then Latin and finally into English. So how many things have been lost or altered in translation whether intentional or not. There must be a few things at least.

Thirdly, the only ones that could transcribe from Latin to English were the priests and scribes who were part of the church and we know that they were more into power and control of the people, than anything else. So possibly writings were altered intentionally along the way as well, so they could control others beliefs and way of life.

Fourth, the Aramaic language didn’t use punctuation. So let’s have a look at a simple example that shows how a statement can mean a different thing.

The boy, said the girl, was behaving badly.
(With punctuation, this sentence states that the BOY was behaving badly)

The boy said the girl was behaving badly
(Without punctuation, it means that the girl was behaving badly)

So you gotta wonder, are the statements that Jesus said in the bible the opposite of what he actually did say.

Many many years ago when I was doing some research on this topic, I came across a book by Gina Cerminara called Many Mansions. It’s a very old book so I’m not sure if you will be able to buy it but ide definitely recommend it.

These are just my thoughts tho.
