Yes. That is the holistic view.
I thought the Huni Kuin song of the “Mirror of the Sky” was an “Upper World” song:
Quote:
Mirror of the sky? Mirror of the sky?
Is your light coming in my direction;
Your light coming in my direction?
He! He! He! (The light) encircling us

Also when in Maria Sabina’s vision "the Supreme Lord of the Mountains, Chicon Nindó, came to her riding a White Horse" – that imo. was an “Upper World” vision too …

Here “The Flying Eagle's Wings” talks about the Sweat Lodge Ceremony alone since “The Rainbow Snake Woman” was not present during the recording:

Any thoughts ImthatIm?

Ok. I was pushing it ….
I hate to see another genuine practice turn into something that sounds right but is only this clichéd farce at heart and turned into a lucrative business at that.

Thought the characters in the video were endearing. The healer with veterinary certificate and the Museum man with his chart of beams rising.
I’m not sure if it is right, but I think his “beams” are what ‘we’ call our “3 souls” or our 3 soul parts.
At the ‘awakening and empowerment’ to the “Upper World”, the shaman gains a “4th soul” (the horse being like the ‘holy ghost’) i.e. the shaman gains power; - one could call synchronicity - the shaman (channeller) ‘dances’ to … as nobody can have nor own ‘synchronicity’.
Yet with genuine Elders, synchronicities (‘perfect timings & manifestations’, impossible to reasoning mind) do happen thick and fast making one gawk (witness) in awe.
In a sense it is them – yet it isn’t them – all at the same time.

Black Shaman, Yakutia (although this must be a theatrical enactment):

Even though ‘Westerners’ seem to turn everything into their ‘playground’ …
If the River is said to be Sacred, you’ll soon have white-water rafting on it – if the Mountain is said to be Sacred … climbing, abseiling ….. (to conquer it).
But this bloke’s (playing a black shaman) talk on shaman’s armour was informative. (Although men wearing women’s clothing or women wearing men’s clothing often means that the shaman is ‘beyond gender, is now the so called “third gender”.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DZjJUvM237k
‘We’ did/do not have such elaborate ritual clothing, but prior to a dangerous “Lower World" journey; - the protective clothing is asked, for example “the boundary of iron” (a hollow metallic tube sealed at both ends one wears on one’s belt among other protective metallic objects).

WOW. Your wife's Sacred Mountain Lands do look and must feel magnificent! (The Totality of Nature there one listens and surrenders to, rather than attempts to conquer) ....
Love the grey granite and the turquoise water. Ahhhh …

Yeah, but I was glad to have the kayaks advantage with the video perspective that I have not seen before.I'm done with the kayakers now so they can get off the river.LOL.
It is a magical and awe inspiring place.
After years of us gathering up there for vision quest and Spiritual gatherings, they designated it a Sacred site, so it has some protections.

"White shamans serve people through the spirits of the upper world".
I trust yellow shamans (Buddhism integrated) are more akin to white shamans.
"Black shamans are healers, treating sicknesses and diseases and protecting people from evil spirits of the lower world".
*
My guess here is just a sketch since I haven’t been to Americas and attended ceremonies.
But you know the ceremonies, where one darkens the whole room, sets up the altar offerings (no?) and then at a given time spirits come crashing, banging and stomping in so very loudly one cannot possibly miss it. Things may even start flying about. A person ‘in the audience’ may all of a sudden hear his/her passed-on grandfather speak to him or her, telling him/her something important …
This to my understanding is when the portal to the lower world has opened, making these things possible. It is a time-frame-window between the lower and this middle world.
People pray for healing – benevolent spirits there take care of it and healing happens.
This I imagine to be the domain of the “black shaman”.
In this realm soul retrievals take place and so on.
The lower world is still rather dualistic. Spirits benevolent to our wellbeing or ominous spirits that threaten.
Being a shaman is a difficult job. Nobody wants to be one, white or black.
White shamans do not need altars with offerings – their 3 souls (or soul parts) are the altar and the offering.
(Which is why we thought Jesus was a (white) shaman and accepted Christ in that spirit).
*
But as I said – this is just my guess-sketch.

in reference to post #907
It all sounds good.
Though there are so many variables and differences to each cultural/ceremonial ways that it is hard to put it all in a nice tidy package.
I do think that there are many similarities and foundational truths.
I had found this vid. awhile back and it reminded me of this Medicine man/boy that performed Yuwipi ceremonies that we hung around with for a season or two or three. This guy in the vid. had me concerned though, whether he would be alright mentally.

Oh and the 3 souls may need some more kicking around because I think I have a clue but I am not sure,

The “beams” from the Siberian video as the "3 souls"? … I do not know.
But our 3 souls are somewhat similar to this:
http://www.face-music.ch/bi_bid/hist...20of%20so uls
After death:
One soul – “breath” goes back to the “Creator Spirit” (can be Eagle) and recycles.
The steam that comes from pouring cold water on hot rocks is also called “breath”.
Another soul – like the ‘auric or electromagnetic energy surrounding the physical body’ … can be like one’s totem animal – a guardian animal throughout life. Here one can suffer soul-loss.
Third soul – is like the person’s “energetic double” (with energy-patterns from past lives) a “free soul”; - which reincarnates. Here this soul can also suffer loss or injury.
Roughly like that. There are many variations throughout Eurasia.
I thiiiink Mesoamericans have something which is vaguely similar. The invisible side of a ‘man’ consisting of 3 parts.

I just had to wonder how, this Bill character of earlier videos - said to have been an injun in past life aaand a shaman, only seemed to have an outsider-witness-view on things … Western-white-man’s cultural/mental reality-orientation patterns.
Was he possibly tricked and never realized this? Without real insights into things, he however laughed a lot, like “I know, (I have collected data on this) - I have got it covered”.

Medicine man/boy that performed Yuwipi ceremonies?
Don’t know.
Heh. The “Powerful Words” he had heard during Ceremony sounds like an Aboriginal place name to me and means “Many (Sacred) Waterfalls”…..
The word “sacred” is inwardly felt/sensed and thus automatically understood without having to voice it aloud or stick it to everything verbally described as Aboriginal …. Though one will be silently watched to what depth one senses the "sacredness" of things, places etc …
