In the land of Moo

Once upon a time, there was a cow named Moo. He lived in a giant golden-green meadow. Overhead, the sun shone brightly in the blue sky while puffy, white clouds sailed by everyday. Scattered about him were trees and he had many friends who would huddle together under the shade of them. Day after day, he ate of the field as his friends increased. He wandered and ate the square blades of grass and drank from the rectangle pools of water in great big troughs the farmer kept clean and fresh.

Moo grew and so did the size of his friends and they wandered further and further because of the size of the herd. Through the grass, Moo could see the sun making blocks of green in the grass and what looked like square scales along the blades. Moo loved the farmer very much and was so thankful to him for providing the grass that he could eat, but as his friends increased, the grass became less and less so he had to walk farther to find any to fill his mouth.

One day, Moo saw what looked like the farmer in the distance only much shorter and not as stout. They appeared to be holding thin hands along their sides and he got closer and closer with each day. Until he could see them up close but they did not move like the farmer. They also scratched his itches and he loved the new friends he had found and began to visit them often. He walked along the edges of his friends until he came back where he had started. He did this over and over until in his mind, he could see reflected - the blocks of water, scales of the grass, his foot prints in the ground, the bark on the trees, and the shape of his "world."

Eventually, it dawned on Moo that he and his friends were in a box, a box that was very large but each day was shrinking due to the size of his herd. Moo began to weep. He thought the farmer loved him and his friends and although he did appreciate the field the farmer had made him, he longed to be free of the box. He wished to roam further and find a place of solace he could share with just his closest friends, a little place where they all had enough.

Moo wished and wished, cried and cried, and the farmer became distraught. Moo was his favorite cow and it broke his heart that Moo wasn't happy as tears dripped from the tufts of his face and he only peered at the land beyond the fence. He was uninterested in anything and he began to starve and thirst withered him away.

One dawn, all of Moo's friends assembled. All but Moo...
