Thanksgiving...a time for gratitude

Thanksgiving is an appropriate time to speak of gratitude and the role it plays in our spiritual development. Here is a quote from Rudolph Steiner from _Knowledge of the Higher Worlds: How is it Attained ?_

"6. A sixth condition is the development of a feeling of thankfulness for everything with which man is favored. We must realize that our existence is a gift from the entire universe. How much is needed to enable each one of us to receive and maintain his existence! How much to we not owe to nature and to our fellow human beings! Thoughts such as these must come naturally to all who seek esoteric training, for if the latter do not feel inclined to entertain them, they will be incapable of developing within themselves that all-embracing love which is necessary for the attainment of higher knowledge. Nothing can reveal itself to us which we do not love. And every revelation must fill us with thankfulness, for we ourselves are the richer for it."

The sentence "Nothing can reveal itself to us which we do not love".....this is a necessary element for progress. To learn and exhibit gratitude is a key for any aspiring student. True love demands undivided attention....giving attention to another implies a suspension of the ego on our part.

Gratitude is the litmus test of a spirituality in the life of a seeker. Simply by this rule one can broadly gauge the spirituality in life. The road to spirituality is long and at times can be painful and monotonous and can take various shades of life. But the attitude of gratitude is what distinguishes one from another and elevates the life really.

So I take you , forum and every contributor thanks very much for making life so wonderful with so great ideas on this occasion of thanksgiving .
