hey i just wonder if we can indicate people by their smell preferences? for example if a person likes bitter smells or mild smells etc, has anyone done any research about this?

I have no idea but it's an interesting thought. I like flowers but the really scented ones like lilies. And lemon.

The air outside after a heavy rain. A freshly mowed lawn. Flowers I like are Gardenias, Roses, Hyacinths and Lavender. Also love the smell of freshly cut limes and lemons. This is just a few.

Freshly cut grass ... freshly laid tarmac ... sweet peas .... old-fashioned roses .... pine ...
Delightful scents. Though I'm wondering how much we are influenced by associating subconsciously particular scents with certain happy times and events in our long distant past?

In a small handful of articles and abstracts I've come across, there seems to be an interesting theory regarding certain people's attraction to the smell and taste of vanilla. There's a seemingly valid concept that people who were fed vanilla flavoured milk powders in place of breast milk during their infancy can develop a lifelong attraction to vanilla as a result, whether it's the scent or its taste (or both). It's an interesting idea.
Personally, I've always loved the smell of wood and leaves burning.

It truly is an interesting subject: When it's this close to the Holidays of Thanksgiving & Christmas, I think of all the delectable smells that come from the 'big dinner' such as pumpkin pies and turkey/ham, but(!) would the pumpkin filling smell so good without the cinnamon, nutmeg, sugar...so it's the spices that really add to those aromas that draw us nigh. Can you imagine just pumpkin filling without those things in it? Nope!
Turkey without salt, and whatever else goes into it?
I love the smell of lilac -- it's heavy without being too heavy.
My mom loved lily of the valley best.
