Why is it that people are led to believe "having everything" will make them happy?

Hi everyone. I think that this is what people are led to believe. There are celebrities who "have everything," but what's presented in the media would prove otherwise.
I think the idea that "having everything" is the biggest myth when it comes to happiness. Happiness really just is what you are. I think that society's idea of happiness is very skewed.
Thoughts?

To be honest I think the drive to "have everything" is foisted upon people by society. We no longer understand what "needs" truly are; we mistake "wants" for "needs" because advertising makes us feel like we must have all that stuff. Rampant commercialization and consumerism are the bane of happiness and root causes of all that is wrong and inequitable in the world.

We were born with everything we could imagine already inside us, law of thermodynamics states no energy can be created or destroyed… only transform.. thus there’s nothing that already that we receive is already ours as power to the imagination—- thus, we already have everything there’s possible to imagine.. I don’t know about your mind but I know mine: we are like giant storage lockers … after you realise this.. you begin to want to seek the metaphorical and spiritual…

We were born as with teleportation in our blood- eventually we will be jumping and teleporting… what bigger gifts would you want..

But there’s darkness to these things; reincarnation… we must first suffer death and be reborn.. until it activates.. it’s already been happening to me.. I know in the future I’ll be able to control it.. but not before much pain and sorrow..

I’m the brooding, bitter, aloof jumper that just wants to cash out!! Lol

I believe that happiness isn’t a destination. Happiness comes and goes in life. Small things like having dinner with friends and achieving something you have set out do brings happiness and when you have to trundle thru the snow or wash a pile of dishes makes you feel down. Happy and not happy all part of life.
