He balked, but finally gave in and reached down to the water

silently caressing it and then he smiled and lit up.
"If feels different then I thought it would."
He said.
It made me happy.

I was surprised to hear that your relative stood in for his employers
daughter, since she was ill. Which led to his being questioned on his faith/religion.

Sorry I didn't mean to make you depressed but never say never. Just a thought although nothing as good as actually being there. Can you not bring the Mountain to you as in getting someone to bring you a small plant or tree you can have in your Home....

That's lovely you were able to see your Brother meeting/touching/smelling the Ocean for the first time, beautiful Let's hope you can return another time....

We have many gifts in our home from the Mountains.

That does remind me that we can venture on a little
hike and view Mount Rainier from a 200 ft. cliff bank
over a river.

I am not sure if you have this document.
I feel you are already aware of it. But here it is.

Thank you, I do have it. I was looking for His Indictment and discovered it.
I'm going to visit His Shrine when this Lockdown is over, it's not to far from my Home but inside the Church will will not be open, I'd like to lay some flowers .

It must have been torture for His Family not being able to bury Him, at least you can visit a Grave, but they not only took His life they deprived them of His body to lay to rest....

Man's cruelty.
I hope we're learning better ways to Love and treat each other.
I'll bet the echoes of his death echoed through the family for years.

Yes Man's inhumanity to Mankind.
The sad thing is we still have this Barbaric behaviour today in different ways. People being slaughtered for their beliefs/cultures etc :

When will we ever learn....

' On Wednesday 3rd March, before the Sessions, he was called by Justice Gawdy to see
him in the Judges’ lodging. The Judge said that he had been told that he was sorry for
his previous answers and he was willing to become a good subject and go to Church.
“How say you, will you go to Church now?”
John replied “I assure you my Lord, I am a true subject, and obedient to her Majesty
and her laws, in anything which may not hurt my conscience. But to say that I will go
to Church, I never did, nor never will. '

Then in another part of His Personal Narrative

' My Lord”, said I, “if that be all the offence I have committed, as I know it is; and if
there be no other way but going to Church to help it, I would not wish your lordships
to think I have (as I hope) risen thus many steps towards heaven, and now will wilfully
let my foot slip and fall into the bottomless pit of hell. I hope in Jesus, He will
strengthen me rather to suffer a thousand deaths if I had so many lives to lose. Let
your law proceed '

After reading this I'm thinking that John saw ' Hell ' as going against his Conscience and being Spiritually tormented..... To Him this was worse than physical torment/torture.

As for me, I have read and re-read numerous times the letters she left behind which explain why she did what she did.

The more we get to know somebody, the more we can understand why they do the things they do. This probably will hold true with your distant relative.

Just found this and googled Ida Cradock - fascinating, thanks.
