I don't know. But I know one thing. The two are not mutually exclusive.

Many people seem to think it's either science or spirituality, and that the two are in direct conflict with each other. But I can never understand that.

Science, to me, is just magic explained. When prehistoric humans first learned to start a fire and control it, that was magic. What else could it be? A fire spirit was summoned from the wood by following a precise ritual, and then that fire spirit was controlled and made to do the summoner's bidding, probably to cook the whatever had been caught in the latest hunt without burning down the settlement in the process. That's magic.

Of course nowadays we can explain it all. We know all about energy stored in the wood, ethanol and such that's been manufactured by photosynthesis, which takes minerals and water and uses sunlight to fuel the process of converting the minerals and water into sugars and starches. Then we can get it nice and hot by friction or other means, and then in the subatomic level, atoms get excited by the input of energy and electrons start to wobbly on their orbit releasing photons, which hit neighbouring atoms and cause them to release photons too, and so and so forth until you get a self sustaining chain reaction and fire erupts. Lots of gases, mostly air, heated to a temperature where more photons (the building blocks of light) are released, giving us the flame.

Science explains all that and more, but is it not still magic?

Einstein told us that E= MC squared. That means that energy and matter are one and the same, just in different states. Other boffins tell us that we're all made of star dust, the accumulated remnants of supernovae. That means we are all made of the same stuff, we all come from the same source, we are all part of the same thing. That sounds more like spirituality than science, but it is science too.

Physical/energy aka matter and energy:

1) Fermionic matter
..electrons, quarks, neutrinos.....

2) Bosonic forces
....a) EMRadiation{photons}
....b) weak forces{ W+, W-, Zo }
....c) strong subnuclear force{ gluons-9}
....d) mesons strong-nuclear force{ two quarks exchanged}
....e) graivty{ presumed graviton}

E in E=mc^2 is most likey specifically refering EMRadiation i.e. scientist and humans often use the word energy when the specifically mean EMRadiation if not high speed electrons identified as beta radiation.

1) and 2) above are the only two known catgarizations of what we know of in our observed Universe.

See what science does and you might discover that it's quite spiritual. Spirituality focuses on subjective experience and psychological growth, science focuses on the world we share. What better way to grow psychologically than to learn about the world you live in? It's both open minded and incorporates science. So in the spirit of science I approach the world with curiosity rather than fear.

To boil it down to a fun quote.
"Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic." - Arthur C Clarke

Science and spirituality come together in the mind of the open. Take the dalai lama, he enthusiastically embraces science. There are awesome science tv shows such as the cosmos(I prefer the original) that evoke a spiritual feeling in me.

Science isn't anything to do with God or a Creator... but it had a lot to do with 'consciousness' (not that anyone has defined consciousness impirically). The difference is, Science doesn't pretend to know the answers to existentialism, but spiritualism does.

i personally feel science/physics and creator are very compatible.

there's always a big debate about one or the other. i say both work in tandem.
