Slugs?
Where I live, this summer season has been extremely rainy. I've noticed that slugs crawl out from the brush near my front door, onto the cement pathway but then get stuck there once everything begins to dry up. I feel so bad for them and try to put them back in the garden. I worry they will dry up on the cement and will not be able to find their way back to soil.
Any thoughts or suggestions? I know this is kind of a weird post, but I don't want to see these little creatures dry up. However, I also worry that I am doing more damage lightly pushing them onto leaves and transporting them into the brush.

Your not harmng them by moveing them if your using leaves to do so , you could always keep a spay bottle of water handy in that area as well n spray any that you find or move with it to rehydrate them. Then put them in a damp shady place like under a bush or plant n they will go about doing what they normally do.

I would feel the same way, I feel bad for the worms when it rains and they crawl out onto the sidewalk and dry up when the rain stops. If I see them I take them and put them back in the dirt before they dry up.
I did want to say though, you said that you put them back in your "garden." If you're talking about the slugs I'm thinking of and you're referring to a garden that you grow vegetables in, slugs will eat everything in sight.
I was just thinking that perhaps you may want to return them back to the brush where they came from?

i'm an earthworm rescuer too! i'll try to rehydrate them if they're in bad shape,
and place them where they might have a chance to survive... or i'll retrieve
them from a puddle, so they don't drown.
i do the same for the occasional slug i find on my walkway, though my sister
bemoans their predations on her garden.
lightly pushing them is less damaging than the hot sun Clio_86;
depending on the specific circumstances. i've found that a credit card is
super useful in scooping up the worms, since they're difficult to grab.

I might get a spray bottle and keep it by my front door. That's a great idea!

My (grown) sister is terrified of slugs. If she sees one crawling around on the sidewalk or the ground, she'll go running down the block, screaming her head off. She's afraid that they'll chase her down and ... well, I don't know what she thinks they'll do, but she runs away, just in case.
And it's funny because slugs aren't the fastest-moving creatures around. If she takes two steps it would take a slug a month to catch up to her.

No you're not doing them any harm. Put them in a shady damp place. They will thank you for it. They even might like being placed under an upturned plant pot or something? Or at least in a leafy damp place on the earth. I have noticed snails will kind of allow their parts which come into contact with dryness, to dry up and stick to the surface....but when rain comes again they re-activate. But slugs will just wither, so move them, why not?
