Cleansing and identification questions
I was wondering if anyone has any good cleansing tips and also I received a bunch of crystals as a gift recently (about 12) and am having trouble remembering/figuring out what they are if anyone has any good sources for crystal identification it'd be much appreciated!

As far as cleaning: I just dust mine off with a dust tool. Or ill gently wipe some of them with a damp cloth. I may sage my space while they are around, but for the most part Crystals are a collectors item for me and I don't clean them.
I know some spiritual folks who wash their crystals with water as a cleansing ritual. I always thought that was bad for the stone, especially if your using hard water. Just my opinion tho, interesting to see what other people do. *watching*
Your more than welcome to post pics of your stones so people can identify them. I like playing that game on here LOL

You can rinse them off. Whether it's hard water or not doesn't matter as it's short. It's not like your rinsing them in acid ;)
You can put them in water, but make sure they're all okay for that as some like calcite and selenite and chrysocolla etc. are not to be put in water.
This gets rid of emotional 'dirt'.
If bubbles appear they need cleansing as that's things coming out. Refresh water every half day/day until it remains bubble-free.
Putting them in water... now it's best to used boiled but cold water or springwater.
If you feel they really need cleansing you can stick them in soil for 12-24 hrs. NEVER potting soil, that is too acid and can seriously damage a crystal. If you haven't got a garden you can buy a bag of garden soil.
You could use incense or sage, but to me this never feels like doing the job really. But I think that's because these don't cleanse the emotional layers which is what usually is absorbed by crystals when they need cleansing.
Sage is for cleansing the mental layers so it doesn't cleanse the emotional ones.
You can also put them on a piece of selenite.
If you feel they really need it you can do it all to cleanse all layers:
Earth, Water, Fire/Sage. This will take you a few days (12-24 hrs earth and water resp) but it is very thorough and sometimes worth it!
Black tourmaline can be put in pure vinegar for cleansing. It will look so beautiful when you've done that, and ready to go right away! Rinse it off of course when you take it out of vinegar.
Do NOT do this with any other crystal. Only BLACK tourmaline.

I always rinse my crystals under running water to remove any negative handling prior to me recieving them... With an intention that they are only to be used for the greatest good.... Except selenite which is porus and doesn't like water....selenite is brilliant also for "charging" your other crystals...

I cleanse my crystals every full moon. I simply put them on a window that gets a lot of moonlight.
As for crystal ID, I recommend learning different classifications of minerals and rocks. Many common crystals are a type of quartz- smoky quartz, citrine, amethyst, tiger eye, and many more. There are also many types of agate and calcite. Once you learn the main types of those three “families” it should be easier to start researching individual crystals.
PS not all crystals are minerals. Some are classified as rock, like obsidian, and some are even types of fossils, like amber and jet. Hope this helps!

You know what I did? I'm new to this, mind you, but I just decided I would try asking my crystals how they like being cleansed.
When in half-sleep state, I asked my gold Himalayan azeztulite what it liked, and it said "sunlight."
I don't think it liked the salt water bath much.

Sounds like an excellent way to get an answer.

So I got a new serpentine palm stone yesterday in the mail (not the large piece I mentioned in crystal acquisitions, that hasn't arrived yet). This palm stone is a super beautiful spring green color. Anyways, I meditated with it. It has an amazing energy - high vibe stone. Also, in half-sleep, it talked to me. Here's what it said:
Guide: The stone wants to be your friend. (Also guide mentioned something about it possibly containing a small chrysotile strain).
Stone: "This is so much fun!"
Me: "What is so much fun?"
Stone: "Following you around!"
Me: *Laughing* "How do you like to be charged and cleansed?"
Stone: "I like plant energy!"
Me: "Okay. Do you know if you contain any asbestos?"
Stone: "I don't know.."
Today I put him gently in the leaves of a large potted plant. I think he will like it there. :)
