I rewatched this the other day, funnily enough, I think it's a really beautiful film with a truly wonderful performance from Saoirse Ronan, with whom I'd positively fallen in love by the end of the film. I can see how you'd be disappointed if you were expecting a romcom though to be fair, whomever billed it as that needs shooting

The Happy Prince - on the final years of Oscar Wilde's life. It was so bleak and seedy...far too painful to watch his descent into poverty and obscurity; that I only lasted the first 12 minutes. It was unbearable. Such a far cry from the rightful status that he commanded at the peak of his talented career.

I finally got around to watching 'The King's Speech' the other day - my word, what a performance from Colin Firth as an awkward, tormented man with a speech impediment who was thrust into the role of King after his brother abdicated the throne. I found it quite an uncomfortable, even painful watch at times, but the performances of Firth and Geoffrey Rush in particular made it compulsive viewing (Michael Gambon was also terrific as George VI's tyrannical father, though he was only in the film briefly).

RE Brooklyn: Funny, Saoirse said just that in an interview with Kate Winslet.
I was interested in the movie Ammonite as a career move for them both.
Look up the Vanity Fair interview --it is just those 2 - 5 yrs ago, no 3rd person.

That is, if you'd like to see more of Miss Ronan.

(Did I ever cry at the end of Brooklyn!!)
