I loved your sharing of the words of your mentor. There exists a reservoir of wisdom that perhaps is closer than we realize. The thrilling thing is that reservoir is accessible to us on a very personal level. The journey when pursued leads directly to our inner self. Some have discovered that meditation opens the door that we wish to go through.

A footnote that I neglected.....”Ask and ye shall receive”......

Prepare yourself for the coming astral journey of death by daily riding in the balloon of God-perception.
Through delusion you are perceiving yourself as a bundle of flesh and bones, which at best is a nest of troubles.
Meditate unceasingly, that you may quickly behold yourself as the Infinite Essence, free from every form of misery. ~Paramahansa's Guru's Guru

And that's OK if not a lot are into Jesus, he still is a spiritual leader and help. There are so many of them, which is good for all the rest of us... One does not have to agree with any of the interpretations put upon Jesus in order to gain insights into his life. One does not have to be a professing Christian to gain in wisdom from its many intricacies. I am not Buddhist, but holy moly do I LOVE studying it, the Buddha himself. I am not a Catholic, but the Catholic mystics are incredible to study and learn about and from. I am not a Hopi, but their spiritual teachings are truly fantastic. I am not a Mayan or an Incan, but their religious ideas and ties in with the cosmos of their theology is so fantastic to learn. I am not a Brit or European, but I love learning from the King Arthur literature. Nor am I Chinese, but the I Ching is deeply profound to me.
And I know we all already know this, I just wanted to repeat it.

I'm glad to hear that my comments were helpful to you in some way. I don't usually answer questions at such great length, but you seem so sincere and have such depth that your questions required an appropriate response at that level of detail.

In your message, you wrote: "There exists a reservoir of wisdom that perhaps is closer than we realize. The thrilling thing is that reservoir is accessible to us on a very personal level. The journey when pursued leads directly to our inner self. Some have discovered that meditation opens the door that we wish to go through."

What you wrote resonated very powerfully with me as it brought to mind one one of my last interactions with my spiritual mentor while she was still on the earth plane. I asked her a question in December 2014 and, after a long pause, she looked at me and responded: "You're an experienced meditator. Meditate and all will be revealed....... Besides, I won't be here much longer". That is very consistent with what you just wrote, and it has guided me since her departure from the earth plane shortly thereafter in February 2015. Your point is very well taken.

Your "footnote" also resonated well with me as it brings to mind a dialogue reported many many years ago with the Sufi mystic Rabia.

A Christian asked her if she believed Jesus' statements:

"Ask and ye shall receive.
Knock and the door will be opened".

Her response regarding the "door" part stunned the Christian questioner into silence. "When was the door ever closed?"

That "door" is always open to us. It is the "gateless gate of Zen" ... and, as you previously noted, meditation is indeed a way (though I won't say that it is the "only way" ).

P.S. Our dialogue is an interesting mix of Christianity and Buddhism and (now) Sufism. Truth is truth regardless of the label for the belief system.
