From my perspective Love is Oneness. In this world it is the power of closeness to another, which breaks down the barriers and limits that we assume. Closeness and distance are the same continuum, upon which love, like, dislike and hate are experienced. Hate expresses the distance from oneness. Love expresses the closeness to oneness.

This experience of love is an expression or reflection of Pure Love. I feel that Pure Love is Oneness, beyond the sense of closeness or distance. Pure Love is the heart of our being, like the central hub of the wheel of life. All loves, likes and dislikes we experience in the world are further out from the centre of being, the centre of Oneness.

For me it has to be unconditional love. An adoration, appreciation, an unlimited concern with no conditions attached. Rare to see beyond a 'loving' parent for their children.
No need for trust because no matter what the one loved does, the one who loves still loves them completely.
That doesn't (to me) imply that it can or will last forever.
I talk to people and love so often seems to be centred on the physically intimate with other euphemisms being spin-offs of that, when really the people concerned aren't even friends enough to be each other's confidants.

Illuminating posts on this thread!

As of what I know, the heart of God is love and light. By love, I mean agape love, an eternal, unconditional, all encompassing, all embracing, nonjudgmental effervescence, which heals and enables.

As an individuated essence of the whole, to what extent we can receive and transmit love and light depends upon the vibration we are at. Love and light is omnipresent, since that is God’s essence and we are that but there is a veil of delusion that opaques the eternal living light of Self. The veil is none other than ego or identity. When ego drops off, we reclaim the luminescence of our true being.

What love is not is a trade, an exchange, endearment that seeks reciprocation or even recognition. In other words, any emotion for gratification relating to or serving body-mind or ego is not love. Pure love is not selective, empathy is, compassion is not. But compassion without wisdom is rudderless.

We fall in love but we do not fall in agape. We rise in agape-Peter Kreeft
