Vitamin K Reverses Arterial Stiffness
Amazing results in reducing arterial calcification.
https://www.lifeextension.com/magazi...rial-stiffness
One experiment with rats:
Quote:
In the groups receiving high-dose vitamin K1 or K2 (MK-4), not only was there no further arterial calcium accumulation, there was a 37% reduction of previously accumulated arterial calcification after six weeks. After 12 weeks, there was a 53% reduction in accumulated arterial calcium deposits.
|
Human experiments also show reduction of calcium deposits.
Exercise reduces arterial stiffness, too.

The problem that has erupted over the years is that people have taken calcium and vitamins D without K, until more recently of course. This has created more problems with imbalances in the body, along with poor dietary and lifestyle problems wreaking havoc as one.
We as humans are gradually understanding the importance of balanced nutrition. One vitamin alone doesn’t work alone, it’s an interconnected network of nutritional requirements, to keep one’s balance. Vitamin K is important to distribute calcium through the body, unfortunately the sources we get the greater amount through, are often foods most humans eat rarely or less of- Miso, fermented foods, kimchi, turnip greens, collards, most leafy greens, organ meats..

A nutritionist advised me to tell the adults in my family to increase the amount of vitamin C in the diets of their children, as we suffer from hypocholesteremia an inherited condition, and Vit C is beneficial in stopping the arteries calcifying and then cholesterol sticking to them.
I also read that calcification has nothing to do with calcium, it is just brittling and cracking of artery walls, but then also read it was calcium deposits , maybe I am getting mixed up with two similar words.

I've been taking 100 mcg/day. You can get 1% vitamin K2 powder on Ebay or amazon dot com.
Under Side Effects
Quote:
When taken by mouth: The two forms of vitamin K (vitamin K1 and vitamin K2) are likely safe when taken appropriately. Vitamin K1 10 mg daily and vitamin K2 45 mg daily have been safely used for up to 2 years. It's usually well-tolerated, but some people may have an upset stomach or diarrhea.

While K2-MK7 has been primarily associated with reducing arterial calcification and improving vascular elasticity, K2-MK4 has shown potential in inhibiting the formation of cholesterol-induced arterial plaques.

I ordered 25g of 1% vitamin K2 (MK-7) and got it recently in the mail. I tried taking about 250 mg (2.5mg K2) last night and didn't notice any effect or side effect. Early in the morning I had a strange dream where I either scuba dived or skin dived to a sunken airplane to look for treasure. This might have something to do with some things I saw on TV about pirate treasure and Amelia Earhart. I used to have some strange dreams when I used to use piracetam. When I got up this morning, I felt a little exhausted which might have more to do with the hot weather and the jogging, bike riding and tree trimming I was doing the day before. Most of the day today, I felt OK.
With the 25g of 1% vitamin K2 (MK-7), 250mg per day would last 100 days.

Here are some of the half-lives of different menaquinones:
MK-7: 3 days
MK-9: 60 hours
MK-4: <24 hours

Vitamin K1 prevents diabetic cataract by inhibiting lens aldose reductase 2 (ALR2) activity

Quote:
One of the key biochemical factor maintaining the oxidative balance in the lens is the reducing agent glutathione (GSH). In various studies it has found that GSH is one of the most vital anti-oxidant factor of the lens [5]. The synthesis and recycling of glutathione falls with age [6].
