Cat Bears!

So, I love watching videos about bears. A lot of people in the US publish videos of the bears that come to their house. Fascinating to watch, and of course baby bears are cute - they look like teddy bears!

But they grow up and then it's an altogether different matter - bears are dangerous animals. They are strong, they have very long claws, and - well, they eat people. In bear areas, folks have to carry bear spray. Bears do go into people's yards, especially if there's an outdoor pool (bears love to go for a swim). And then it's a case of everybody indoors, close the door, and hope that the bears disappear soon again, and preferably without doing too much damage to the yard. Or film them from a safe distance and put the video on Youtube, lol.

Has anyone ever come across a bear? What did you do and what was it like?

I haven't, but I'd like to recommend an amazing documentary if you haven't already seen it called Fear Island. The name is the translation of the name Russian rtappers gave to the area. The bears in this area are super huge- measuring 13-14 feet upright!

Thank you, I found it on Youtube, yes they are in Alaska, huge grizzly bears. Grizzlies are much larger than blackbears. Scary they are, and very aggressive! Blackbears are nowhere near as dangerous or aggressive.

Here's how to survive an encounter with a bear (or not as the case might be):

If it's black, attack

If it's brown, stay down

If it's white, good night

the last bit refers to the polar bear of course, a known man eater.

Hi Altair, haha, love it! Sloths are cute, sunbears not so much.

So far I have just let bears be bears and have
not had close surprise incidents, only sighted them
from a safe distance.

We have bears in our area that use the river corridor for travel.
So we do have to keep them in mind when out and about.

It is Mountain lions that spike the hairs on my neck at times.
They are like ghosts in the forest.

I would not feel well about prowling cats such as mountain lions stalking about.

It’s a different game entirely compared to bears and wolves (almost zero danger).
The large cats will think you are prey...

Yes, I agree the big cats that lay in wait and or stalk big
prey can end a human life, when and if "IT" decides to.
Even if only using you as a play toy.

I have never encountered a wolf or a wolf pack in the wild.
I have encountered wild packs of dogs.
We did not stick around to see if they were hungry
and seen us as prey or not. Definitely scary encounters.
