Bucks and Trees
I have a weird question...Does anyone know the habits of bucks or deer in general and their use of trees? I planted a fairly small autumn maple in my front yard last year and woke up the other day to deep scrapes up and down the side of the tree about 2 feet long. The grooves are pretty deep and are about 3 inches wide. There are woods close by my house and I don't know why a deer would come out and choose that single tree and scrape it. But everything points to a buck rubbing his antlers. The tree diameter is only about as thick as a person's arm. I'm open to suggestions. Could it be something else? Thank you.

They're marking their territory and signaling the females that they're in the mood for love!!!
You can try wrapping the trunk with chicken wire or making a chicken wire fence around it.
