I kinda parallel Pine Ridge initiatives with Arnhem Land, ALPA development.

Something to be real proud of.
Economy, culture, spirituality – all aspects working towards the same goal …

Also working together with Balanda:

Everybody proud now of themselves and of each other …

I thought “dope” meant cannabis … marijuana and hashish, a narcotic which was first used by Proto-Indo-Iranians and Indo-Europeans I think - if not the Chinese.
Apparently in Americas hemp also grew but not the narcotic kind.
But I see in Americas “dope” means heroin and fentanyl and OxyContin.

I was on Endone for a couple of days in a hospital, an opioid painkiller apparently containing oxycodone. So I know how it feels, but you do recognize from the very start how addictive it could/would become.

I am not unfamiliar with heroin addiction either since I knew quite a few addicts in Copenhagen.
At the time I hadn’t realized how numb I had become to it all.
Hearing about or watching people overdosing on street corners or an addict sticking knives into his knee to show what a ‘superman’ he had now become … the robberies etc. etc. had become a norm.
But when I left the city for a while to live on an island, coming back to Copenhagen with ‘fresh eyes’ was a reality-shock. It wasn’t nearly as bad, but to me it felt like being in the Kensington St reality and I really couldn’t witness/take it anymore when there was/is nothing one can do to help. The hopelessness and the helplessness of it all is just too painful to bear:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U1IiKZxskDQ

Only knew one person who had kicked the heroin habit and that was with the Methadone program.
Yep! (This video melted my heart):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-m9OAovoUwA

But it is not just reservations, it is all over Americas and apparently in Straya too, although I have only heard of some people using Crystal Methamphetamine the ‘Ice’ here.
So, it is everybody’s problem.

I really wonder if bringing in the big guns – the toad – would help?

Yep, opioids do not discriminate; they get everyone who uses them.

Did the Vikings culturally (Indo-European) traditionally drink Cannabis juice? – I don’t know - perhaps.
How did that tie into their spirituality? – I don’t know that either, since that side of my ancestry is a ‘blank wall’. As far as I know ‘we’ in the North-East Fennoscandia only ever used the Fly Agaric:
Quote:
A local variety of the mushroom was used as an intoxicant and entheogen by the indigenous peoples of Siberia and by the Sámi, and has a religious significance in these cultures.
The spiritual connection and the psychedelic influenced reality orientation there is as clear as Peyote use is for Huichols - I’d imagine.

Did opioids ever have a spiritual significance – rituals attached to them? Maybe Afghans would know?

I find these documentaries fascinating:
From the Appalachian - blue grass music country:

... to Scandinavia:

In Sweden the stigma attached to heroin users would be so oppressive it would actually escalate the need for psychological escape. In Denmark the air is much freer, but will this maintenance of the problem actually help any to seek a way out?

And what would be the best way out?

Empathy is overrated here – it only leads to “idiot compassion”, but an all-round understanding of the problem may help:

No wonder why people are suspicious of governments and the advice of health professionals …

Yep, drugs and alcohol are a big problem. If I thought licking a toad was a cure
I would be a toad hunter.LOL.(Though many species are having a hard time surviving)
There has to be a 'want to' and a STRONG desire by a person to change direction in LIFE.
Also that all important, how did you say it, Spirit Design.
If toad licking or any other psychoactive/psychotropic medicines is where Spirit takes/leads a person then so be it.
But, I have BIG opinions on how and why a person chooses to partake and who and how the treatment is administered.

Here is a little article that you may enjoy.

Hopefully as the weather drives me more indoors and the Winter chores are done I will get back on here more.(If I can behave myself)LOL

I already am. I catch and then freeze them – the most humane end to cane toads. Did not know one could lick those as well. Would not try:

I worry about the other frog species.

But here is where an addict hits a snag.
Have watched quite a few Kensington St. youtubes – and the imagery doesn’t really give one the picture, but the soundscape does:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U1IiKZxskDQ

^ The piano soundscape is so like the ‘heroin cloud 9’ and the voiceover is like “another room” – this sterile, alien, cutting and cold reality we call ‘normal’.
Then when the speeding train takes off Kensington station – it sounds a bit like the “Aztec Death Whistle” – which is like the oppressive cloud overhanging on the background awareness of an addict about the self-destructive path one is on.

This Methadone friend once told me that the scariest bit wasn’t the withdrawals from heroin but adjusting to this alien reality (we call normal). Because one’s brain becomes so set in that other mode, I assume ….
I would also assume, that psychedelics (ethical, clinical, safe use) could reset the brain with a potential of a fresh new start. Besides, having faced one’s worst fear already – the oppressive cloud might lose its hold on one. And the idea to even ASK Spirit Design, might become an option.

‘My Hero’ of that world, was this former heroin addict, who later became a drug rehabilitation counsellor. Those people know how to offer real help.

*

But then – spiritually speaking. Long story, I have written it here somewhere, about a friend who passed, who showed me his passing … all that .. and in the end he guided my trance into, what I call “Causal Realm” where he played the most Heavenly piano music.

No drugs, but I did not want to come out of that trance either, but just stay there – forever.
Which is why – (not that I am one, but I do understand that) REAL Shamen do not need to take substances, so this strong association of Shamanism with psychedelics becomes a bit of an irritation.

In reference to the video in post #858 in Philly, it made my Soul hurt.
It reminded me of the walking dead, even though they weren't walking much.

This video and others like it made me feel better.(6:41 mins.)
