So this is an interesting conundrum.. if a soul is living as a rock, is that soul then bound to the lifespan of that rock, perhaps billions of years, from its formation to eventual pulverization? Should the rock merge with other rocks via the pressure of tectonic plate shifting, volcanic activity, perhaps a meteor strike, does the lifespan of that rock cease, thus freeing the soul, or does the merging suggest a complexity that further integrates with that souls more deepening evolutionary path? If in the process of investing these billions of years is the soul also free to experience among other living options? And does the perspective that all time exists in a simultaneous fashion then precludes a longtime-liner-experience thus providing the option of an instantaneous exposure, though linearly the illusion is quite lengthy?

And to live? is that an organic assumption, or is the actual process of living far more comprehensive than that? Does the motion of atoms, the movement of energy, denote a more intricate form of what we'd call life while enveloping a much higher vibrational experience, all the while taking the form of a rock, but in essence being very-much more? :^)

A soul might take the new body based on the past life desires, if someone dies before their desires being fulfilled they take the new body which is most suitable to them but i think Karma plays bigger role in whatever we get at the end.

That's why it is said that we should kill all our desires related to materialistic world, best is to stay away from all these distractions and follow a simple lifestyle with the goal of good karma and meditation to liberate ourselves from the endless cycle of life and death, sorrows, myseries.

Forget about ipods, ipads, galaxy, mercedes, suzuki and all that stuff which is a big hurdle in your path to attain the state of blissfulness. Your every action must take you closer to your goal i.e. Moksha.

Sounds very similar to what religions would have us do... be good with the intent of going to heaven... but wouldn't that be predefining the "end", thus based on the definitions of our more narrowly experienced mentally/physical perspective?

Everything that exists, living or non-living by our current definition, contains a piece of the divine consciousness/energy/vibration, everything has some form of awareness. I think this is how psychometry works- the memories of eg the meteor flying through space can then communicate themselves to people's minds.
Our consiousness connects to the consciousness of all else, it may be that we can 'switch on' a particular existence to exist as say a rock for a time, and then move on to another existence. The 'soul' of the rock exists for eons but 'we' only experience it for a lesser time.
