Dog Bite, Lost a Finger

Interpretations welcome or just have a read of a crazy dream I had this morning!

There was somebody at the door to our home, either a neighbour or a relative, whose dog came inside. It entered the living room where I was standing and I wasn't happy about it. They called for it to come back. It went back and forth from the room before I realised my concerns about it being dangerous were false. It was evidently happy to see me, so I engaged with it and stroked its head. This playfulness continued for what felt like a minute before suddenly, unexpectedly, the dog bit off my entire pinky finger from my left hand. It held it in its mouth as I tried to encourage it to drop it out. Finally, the dog released my finger and was no longer part of my dream.

I was devastated as I tried to preserve my finger, putting it in cold water. I was waiting for a taxi to take me to a hospital but it wasn't showing up. Meanwhile, my family members were not showing me support. As I put the finger within a cup in a freezer, I realised that I had been using hot kettle water, which further caused me more concern.

There was something about a large spider being 'knocked out' on its back on the bathroom floor. I'm not sure how that factors in. The panic continued and I soon found myself arguing with my relatives as I learned they had orchestrated the whole thing to have the dog bite off my finger.

Later, my dream continued as I ran through streets in direction of the hospital, trying to catch a bus with no success. I then found myself lost, uncertain of what direction to go. A woman from the hospital found me and gave me directions. She didn't seem very compassionate, however, and soon got on my back about finances and how it was that I would pay for medical treatment. We were walking down a path to the hospital. It was windy and generally very weird in how it felt. I put this down to spirits and the many people who had passed in the hospital over the years. In that moment, I also realised that I had no money and had forgotten my bank card, which made the experience feel even more grim and brought me to tears. I looked at the wound on my hand, trying to determine how much time I had left. Apparently, in this dream, once the wound closed over the bone, it would no longer be possible to repair the damage that had been done.

Finally, I learned that I could pay later - some good news at last! I entered the hospital and approached the reception area. I showed my hand, except now it was my right hand and I had most of my finger. Nonetheless, I presented the full finger, which I had kept in my pocket. Unsurprisingly, it wasn't old. The receptionist was began to prepare my appointment but at that point I was awoken by my alarm.

I guess I ran out of time! Or maybe... I had just made it!

Your mind seems to be struggling with trust issues. Who and what can be trusted, how can you tell, and is anyone reliably on your side. The dog seemed friendly enough until it turned, turns out your relatives set you up, can't count on that taxi when you really need it, can't even catch a bus, and you can't find your way on your own either. All that nurse and the hospital cares about is money. Can you even trust yourself.... got lost... put the finger in hot water by mistake. Lots of uncertainty, fear, and anxiety lurking somewhere in the subconscious mind?? Any recent trust shaking events (and possible major not so recent events) in your life that the meaning and implications of which your mind may be exploring while you sleep? Interesting though that it was the little finger, maybe not as bad as an index finger or a thumb.... although accidental death and dismemberment insurance might pay more for one of those .

Thanks Ketzer! I'll have to ruminate on it some more, but the subject of trust certainly does appear to stand out in this one. There's a lot of health related things going on in life at the moment with challenges attached and a sense that control has been lost. Some things that initially brought joy have become difficult as a result. Given the theme of health and a hospital, I'd say there are connections there, so I'll definitely give it some more thought. :)

Thanks!
