You know what Prokopton...don't hassle over it. I also did art most of my life and worked hard on improving it. Then life happened and I haven't managed to get back into art for nearly 20yrs. Sometimes I'd love to pick up a pencil or pastels again, but I will some day and so will you.

Cheers

Ah yes, I should have thought of masking fluid. I've used it in the past, but I tend to work with rougher paper and it has a habit of ripping the paper. It's a great tool with smooth paper.

I do always use smooth paper, that's what I prefer.

Basically a liquid latex. You paint it onto the picture where you want it to remain white, and it dries forming a mask. When you're done with the darker areas you just peel off the dried fluid.

Hmmm.....I'll have to get me some of that!

There are various tips for using it -- keep specific brushes just for that, and work a bit of soap through the brush before you dip it in the fluid. It ruins brushes very easily so don't use good ones.

But if you work in watercolour there are some things it makes possible that simply wouldn't be otherwise.

Hiya guys

I have a rubber brush used specifically for masking fluid. It's much more controllable than a normal brush (imo) and has a really pointy point to it.

I tried one of those but it didn't hold enough fluid to be worthwhile for me! With the precautions I take I've never lost a brush to the fluid anyhow...
