The Difference a Guru Makes...

Many traditions describe that it is nearly impossible to realize the "truth" without the guidance, help and support of a true guru. I thought it might be helpful to describe how/what is the meaningful difference a guru makes to the realization process.

There are many ways in which it can be described, but in simple terms, "we" are beings of "light". The normal person has many fears, issues, attachments and ego stuff which "obscure" this truth. Rather than notice the energy/light that we are, we get caught up in the perceptions and mind activity of life. We believe that all of the mental activity and the boundaries of the body are "us". A true guru has seen through the obstructions, perceived the light and in doing so, the light "flows through" them.

When one is ready and "finds" a guru, an energetic bond is formed. Our subconscious (or higher) self yearns for the "light" and so "connects" to the guru, which becomes a "form" for the light in the world for us. To form this energetic connection requires a very open, trusting and loving heart. The more open and trusting, the further the guru can take you. With full surrender and trust (which is very rare), a guru can take you all the way to the brink. The final step you must take on your own, as the guru itself, ultimately becomes an "attachment" that which must also be surrendered (let go).

Once the bond is formed, it is like one is sort of "drafting" off the guru. The guru can share the light and clarity of mind. Also, the light of guru is constantly "hitting" the obstructions of the student. If the student trusts and let's go of the energetic mental obstructions, it is like the guru "washes them away" with light. Lifetimes of karma and obstructions can be cleared quickly.

Hope you found this interesting (and maybe helpful). Best wishes on you path.

Thanks jonesboy. Very true.

I’ll just add that the Guru need not appear in the flesh.

Yes, thank you, jonesboy.

Some people may resist the idea of surrendering completely to a guru. They think that this means we are handing over our power, giving up our autonomy, becoming brainwashed. Whatever power and autonomy we think we have is mostly illusory.

When we reach the brink, that final step of total surrender takes place within. We let go of all that we are not, and we discover our own true nature.

Alas, such a true Guru is rare. There are many counterfeit gurus out there, ready to take advantage of those who lack discrimination. But as the saying goes, a counterfeit coin only has value because genuine coins exist. If there were no genuine coins, people would not give value to the counterfeit ones.

I recall reading a comment by some great yogi that all these lesser teachers serve a purpose, in that they attract those people who are not yet ready for full spiritual practice. Those who are ready will bypass these lesser teachers in their search for the true Guru.

Peace

A real guru won't be found on YouTube or have a website where you can buy a enlightenment 12 week course/ Tech

And even then this is a path ment to be walked by you and no one else .

I believe that a good teacher teaches you how to acquire the knowledge, and not what that knowledge is. A good teacher can help a capable pupil to attain his potential even when that is higher than the teacher's.

Eventually, everybody's best teacher is his inner source of guidance. A guru should only teach you how to access that source.

Dead on. A useful guru shows a follower how to become their own guru in the end.

Yes. All true. Taking you right to the brink, yes - the final move is yours, alright.
Staying in the realm of grace and bliss that your guru opened in you
is yours to protect as if cupping a candle to your chest in a breeze...
Oh, what a delicate and precious gift that can be given....what a balance!
Like holding sand...hold too tight---and it goes thru your fingers!
Oh my...each morning again placing the experience, like a needle, back into the groove
of a romantic, glorious symphony only you are hearing.

Prepare yourself for the coming astral journey of death by daily riding in the balloon of God-perception.
Through delusion you are perceiving yourself as a bundle of flesh and bones, which at best is a nest of troubles.
Meditate unceasingly, that you may quickly behold yourself as the Infinite Essence, free from every form of misery. ~Paramahansa's Guru's Guru

If you read the OP you would see a real guru directly shares it. Has you directly experience it.

Most guru's within traditions teach you a system of practices based on the teachings of realized beings.

So you have what you are aiming for and the means as well as the guidance along the way.

How many people here have realized the jhanas? The samadhi's? All the knowledge in on the internet.. I have now showed you how to acquire it. Yet, it's a little bit more complicated than that.

Also, how does one know who's potential is higher? That is ego and something that must be let go of.
