The Messiah and the 3 days and 3 nights timeframe of Matthew 12:40?

When responding to the Pharisees' request for a sign from the Messiah, why do you suppose He made the specific point that He would be in the heart of the earth for 3 days and 3 nights? Is there something meaningful about that time period?

Sorry, but I am learning that it is unproductive to interpret Scripture. The esoteric is hidden in plain sight throughout the entire Bible but interpretations fall on deaf ears. There is a reason for that and I must learn to respect that.

They wanted a sign from heaven, a miracle mybe, something which would have demonstrated the source of Jesus's authority.
Imo.

And if He thought that was what they were looking for, why do you suppose He specifically used being in the heart of the earth for 3 days and 3 nights as proof?

If you look at the Jonas story, He was surposedly in the belly of the fish for 'three days and three nights' and Jesus was buried in a tomb for 'three days and three nights'. Jonas was freed from the belly of the fish and Jesus was freed/rose from the dead..
Imo, the sign of Jonas can be seen as a 'metaphor' and also a 'prophecy' of Jesus’s Crucifixion, His burial, and also His resurrection.

But why 3 days and 3 nights? Why not 2 days and 2 nights?
