New Age - good or not?

Hello ;)

I've just wanted to ask - what do you think about New Age music? Do you listen to it? Or prefer to avoid this genre? And if you would like, please say elaborate, saying why/why not ;)

The concept of New Age was initially coined by Edgar Cayce.

Normal / pop rock music contains words, and these words always impact mental states. As a young teenager I listened to lots of pop music which made me mostly sad and depressed. Lots of R & B or RAP music makes me angry.

Ideally you want to listen to meditative music with no lyrics, or peaceful classical music. This type of music does not engage the Mind or impact the mind. You would want music that places you in a very peaceful relaxed state. This music does it for me. A typical album is Chakra Gold or Healing Gold by Aetherium = https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RLCgid4apuY&t=1s

Some New Age albums have lyrics that are nice and easy to listen to. Some I enjoy but some I find contain waffle....meaningless words that are just nonsense.
I do however like the albums by Secret Garden - very spiritually uplifting. (White Stones / Dawn of a Century etc)

Some Native American Albums are great too, or some Zen music. One's Spirit Guides tend to influence ones choice quite a bit. My husband has a Native American Spirit Guide and then for a period he took to listening to Sacred Spirit: Chants and Dances of Native Americans https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FQ9pxFB6tVU

Sometimes he is influenced by his Japanese Spirit guide and likes listening to Zen relaxing music.

You can try out any New Age titles you like and decide for yourself.

New Age music is too much teletubby stuff for me so I'll stick with Manowar.

Yup.

I can only listen to so much new-age music before it grates on my nerves. I was listening to 'Angel Sleep'by Llewelyn...thought I'd turn on the radio instead and I found a Metal program...I was forcibly snapped out of my sleepy state by Equlibrium...going "I likey...I really likey!"

Nope, it was 'Born To Be Epic'.

The radio station was my local one, Vox FM and the program was 'Reigning Metal':

http://www.voxfm.org.au/programs/view/96

They followed "Born to be Epic" by Equilibrium with "My Witness, Your Victim" by The Agonist, then "Let The Serpent Follow Me" by Sanctuary. I started writing down the playlist because each track was a total gem and I wanted them all for my iPod.

I was in metal heaven...couldn't help but let the words of "Let the Serpent Follow Me" wash over my soul as I contemplated the kundalini...

I need to listen to more Equilibrium stuff though and thank you for that one (listening now)...

LOL of all their awesome die-hard songs it just had to be Born to be Epic... That one is actually meant to be joke. If they want to promote Equilibrium they should come up with something better next time. But good to know you like them, fun fact I've seen them live twice and personally met the (new) vocalist once. That being said, we also need a radio station like that here because the only stuff we get shoven down our throats are those garbage boy bands and talentless annoying high-pitched pop.

Yep, I got the whole satirical nature of it - like Steel Panther on crack. The break from thrash into that quirky little jingle got me in though...I was like "what the...?" LOL

I spent the past few years being an Industrial Junkie, but that one took me back to my Metal roots.

Yes, I shall listen to other songs to get an idea of the band.

I found a useful App for my Android phone - TuneIn.
Its a radio streaming App.
I selected New Age & Relaxation channels and found a number of free channels from Calm Radio (Canada) with stations like

Calm Radio - Balance
Calm Radio - Zen
Calm Radio Healing etc etc...

I like to listen to the relaxing tones of these stations. Unfortunately they also come with Adverts when you listen to the free stations.
The Premium versions come without Ads.
