Too bad the video “WILD IRELAND” - “The Burren heart of Stone” of my first post is no longer available.

No habitat - no animals.

A friend of mine, already a 4th generation farming Aussie still felt like she hadn’t properly connected to this land.
Being active in “Reconciliation Movement”, she thought she could reconnect to the land through the Aboriginal connection to it, but the Dreamtime, Song lines & the Kinship system (Moiety, Totem and Skin Names) were too different a culture to her own to relate.

So she bought a piece of eroded, degraded land where the soil had been mined of all its nutrients by bad farming and livestock management that only lantana (weed) would grow on it anymore.
After clearing the Lantana, bit by bit she started planting local native trees and shrubs onto the land and bit by bit she started to see ecosystems form and wildlife return. Witnessing all that, her love for the land grew and she reconnected.

I find it interesting how Irish or Celts have got this rich folklore about trees, when there are/were hardly none left.

Sacred Trees of Ireland

Symbolic meanings …
Harp music of the trees…..
Trees as silent witnesses ….

Sound quality is quite bad, but the information fascinating.

Makes it really hard to probably even be there.
I call myself a Forest Fundamentalist. An environment needs old-growth forests, or else is in need of the blessing of the forest gods!

I guess it is because of the brain elasticity thing that we get used to all kinds of new normals, until it is even hard to imagine Ireland as a thickly forested land - it once was.

Yet to my ear the Celtic Harp music is divine. It speaks of the (connection to) the magical leafy woodlands and flowery meadows. Celtic Harp music (to me) is like “an empty perfume bottle, nothing is left, yet the scent lingers on”. (Quote from a Buddhist teacher). But that scent can ignite the passion for renewal, to reconnect …

So I can’t wait! for this rewilding to become more widespread.
It also speaks of this Pegan Proto-Indo-European culture (Scandinavians, even Finns, Balts, Slavs, Germanics, Celts share …) The Tree of Life …The Yew Tree, The Yggdrasil …. Oaks connected to Thunder Gods etc. and there is much beauty in that.

To a hunter-gatherer, the Forest means identity, the Totality of one’s soul or self, one is only a part of. So to live in a clear-felled, deforested landscape would be quite unthinkable.

The British Isles must have looked amazing in ancient times. They get a lot of rain so imagine lots of wet forests, Europe's own temperate rainforests.

I like harp music as well. From a video game; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xFjp...annel=Everness

Good to hear from another rewilding enthusiast!

I appreciate you too! And a shout for Belarus!
I can’t even imagine “spirituality” without Nature.
Yet it isn’t the duty of the Aboriginals (nor Native Americans) to fix the Euro’s disconnectedness to their original connection to Nature, it is the “karma” of the Euros to fix what they have destroyed and to reconnect - imo.

Still, if totemically you are a “Cassowary”, the survival of the species is paramount, hence the close association of the Aboriginal with the conservation groups. We respect each other black or white. We have got the same goal.

A friend/associate of mine – an Irish guy from Kilkenny spent 4 years as a hermit in the Simpson Desert breeding Numbats.
I admire and highly respect the bloke. He was one of the firsts to truly care.

Yes, I'm with all people that stand for conversation. Europeans, (native) Americans, Amazonians, Africans, Asians.. the same struggles return. I'm with everyone that wants to preserve the beauty of this world.

This kind of co-operation between the indigenous and non-indigenous started in earnest in 80s and 90s in Australia:
