I wonder if fear of pain comes from generations past/past lives where pain and suffering had very little support (compared to what we have today) so there would have to be a lot of times past fear floating through our current streams..

When I was growing up: I almost died so many times, I just can not remember how many times. Then I looked forward to the next time I would almost die.
To me: death is part of life. In order to experience life, one has to 'experience' death.

Happiness is the result of an enlightened mind whereas suffering is caused by a distorted mind.

i had to face the idea of 'death' in this life many times many ways.... it was just another thing that I couldn't stand and sometimes I would rather have been dead than continue, other times I've been in wonder that what I just did didn't kill me... and other times I've just been sitting there shivering in my boots, about the consequences of what I was about to do next....
now i think, a part of that is that I've died so many times so many ways in other lifetimes that I'm just kind of innured to it, i tend to think of it as an irritant more than anything. I think though that there is a specific way you can die, and others have found that they can get things they want in future lifetimes by invoking that. But they also hoard (again) and won't let others do the same.
from the books i 'get' that if you die enough and in enough different ways you would eventually have the ability to see the commonality between all those deaths, in other word get a view of what death looks like, and begin to learn to completely avoid it. What I am saying here is that the 'tree of life' may be slightly different in concept than what others might choose to conceive it as.... But of course I have no concrete answers here.
anyway as it turns out I'm more tolerant in my thoughts about life of the body than others tend to be... which is really good for me because the desire to keep the body alive is a major source of attachments and attachments always stop me dead in my tracks lol.
now if i can just quit being attached to the idea I shouldn't bre attached!
