opening third eye

Hello,

I was wondering if any one can help me with opening my third eyes. I know it is very common in Inidan culture.

Any help will be strongly appreciated.

Well, this is my take:

Hi, well you have done the first thing - You have a desire to. :) As a start:
Sit in stillness and silence; a dark room helps, no disturbances...no cat jumping on you or the phone ringing, ha.
For a beginner thoughts are active at first, sure.
(Many stop since they don't like their thoughts and/or they have a goal and are not experiencing it 'fast enough", lol)

Focus at the point 'between your eyebrows', or simply, the forehead....
the 'back' of the forehead from the inside, that is. :)
You may experience or see just darkness or black...that is typical.

Keep focusing there...ANYthing you see, say, little sparkles, specs with color, floating about...that's a fine start!!

I would suggest: Always start with a pure, sweet, simple intention.

There’s this well known kung fu movie ~ The 36th chamber of Shaolin. In it, originally there being 35 chambers or levels, the aspirant is asked where he would like to begin, to which he answers ‘the 35th of course, being the highest’

His wish is granted but then he finds he’s totally lost and incapable there. So he voluntarily begins with chamber number 1 (which was not easy too) and works his way upwards.

So, the third eye ~ or any other chakra for that matter, I’d say, all are open already but at different levels. It’s something like if our eyes are closed and we try to open them but cannot because the intensity of light is too high, so we go slowly, trying to acclimatise.

Patience and surrender is the key ~ we see the caterpillar in the chrysalis and only at the optimal time it becomes a butterfly. If the process is forced, the caterpillar dies.

What we imagine a spiritual enableability to be and what it actually is are two different things. As such, the view I always hold is to be receptive and unresistant, whilst prioritising God search … nothing less than seeing God face to face should suffice, otherwise we are shortchanging ourselves, aren’t we? So why then get sidetracked in a this or that boon or ability?

There are several yogic techniques to awaken the divine energy within, called kundalini. My question is simply this: who is it who wishes to engage in a this or that practice? Or in other words, as Ramana queried ‘Who am I?’

The seeker who seeks is ego identity. This identity does not actually exist. If this be so, we need to relook at the starting point coordinate itself, before we set sail.

Therefore, my view is, simply abide in thought rested silence, living for the most part, internally. Sans thought, identity recedes. Then, in the vast void of nothingness or emptiness, attention poised and aware without agenda embraces and releases each offered impulse from the universe. All is enabled automatically provided we do not let lower mind interfere.

I’d strongly caution against any forced practice. I recognise many on this forum hold opposing views but yet I offer mine, if it resonates. Take it easy, take it slow. Enjoy!

Thank you so much for all your help and advice. I have been into this for about 7 years now. Sometimes, I did it for few nights in a raw, and I used all the possible videos in youtube, tried reading articles, etc, but I am not even sure if it is happening.

some times, I see purple light, but that is it. The rest is complete darkness. I tried meditation and many youtube videos, and tried sitting in dark room for a long time with couple of candles and breathing slowly, trying to relax my mind, etc, but nothing. I have learned to control my thoughts, but that has not helped either. I listened to many mantra's and all kind of activating you third eye from youtube.

You see purple?
That's wonderful. Stay with it...you will (may) see a kaleidoscope of colors...
dancing around.
''Enjoy''...that's what my old guru advised!

@ Molearner post #10 ~ well said. Attachment to experience is bondage.

As far as the plateau goes, it’s a time for inner assimilation. If we are uneasy, it signals we’re still in lower mind. No harm in it but we know where we are and can try to fix it.

sometimes reading too much can be a hindrance, as others say, submit to love/God; no expectations, only willingness.

Sweet, yes.:)

A word on expectation.
I sit for hours at a time...heavenly...I expect wonder - joy....and so on.

When I plant corn, I expect corn.
When I do a day's work I expect I will be paid.
When I have invited guests to my home and made a place for them ...I expect they will come.
When I sit in stillness with a full heart and empty cup ..I expect it will be filled to the brim.

So far so good.
